Lounge Colour!!

I’m after some advice on what colour to paint my living room. I just feels it needs an injection of something. Do I do a statement wallpaper on the fireplace or paint all one colour? Please help!

Could you perhaps post some more pictures of the room from different perspectives. You will get more constructive suggestions then.

Hi Lisa, nice sofa. I had a red sofa for 10 years and loved it ( though mine was fabric) I've changed the kitchen/ living room and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I gave in and put in a grey leather sectional one and I must say it's much easier to decorate around. Are you in Ireland? Have you heard of the 1933 company, they have very nice suites. Red makes a big statement! Just my 2 cents worth, good luck!

Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. Do make sure the colour blends with the lounge though as you can obviously see through.

Take out sofa, use beanbags and those blow up seats for their friends. Coloured rugs for tumbling and crawling on. Supersoft teddy bear blankets so they can curl up. Add in one of those soft blanket boxes for toy storage and so you have somewhere soft to perch when you are with them. Paper half way up the wall in the wall paper that kids can draw on, so they can decorate in whatever colour they like and you won't mind. A childs lift up desk, bookcase and some crazy lamps in weird colours. Then close the door, collapse on the sofa that you have moved, breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky stars that you have another room for the kids to go to. (Grab wine and pretend they aren't yours for half an hour! ;-) )

It feels bland because floors and walls are beige. (ish). If you want to make a statement about a room. contrasting shades work really well. You have spotlights so the south aspect is irrelevant. Put a dimmer on spots if not already there so you control the light and feel of a room. I presume the fire is staying there so that back wall would be perfect for TV to be put on/entertainment system. Corner couch facing tv wall with chaise lounge on fire side. Behind the corner or L shaped couch, table and chairs so the room is functional for entertaining also and the layout is proportional. The room also has a focal point (TV)

More photos would help re colours.

It looks as if you like modern country so just thinking Cole and son cow parsley wallpaper may look nice. You could do the alcoves or the chimney breast (although sometimes the edges aren’t straight and much of it is covered with a mirror or art)

It’s all a bit beige isn’t it? I had the same issue - cream walls, beige sofas and beige and red curtains so I asked for help on here, and finally opted to paint the walls a soft sage green. It went well with the reds, including a new rug and I really love it.

It depends on a lot of factors. Is it very light and sunny? If so you have more options. If it is a bit gloomy then you may want to paint it something more of a mid tone with slightly more colour. Can you spot pictures of the sofas etc?
