Need help on kitchen floor tiles
Comments (33)Hi catbox/emerald18 - your kitchen is absolutely stunning - I love it - mostly because your style is the same as mine - only the tiles I've chosen are Henley Cool from Topps Tiles (sage green/blue). I've also had a few moments of indecision but I've had a picture and sample of the tiles pinned up for months and I still love them. I'd chosen matt slab style kitchen door fronts but I might be convinced by your photo to change to Shaker. I am also going for the wood worktop but can't decide whether to have a Belfast sink or not. What sink did you choose? I also can't decide on a splashback, but like white painted brick + something more cleanable by the sink and hob. Once again, I love love love your kitchen - I'm pinning the photo of it up with my tiles picture in case I get future wobbles about my dream kitchen...See MoreWooden floors in the kitchen??
Comments (20)I have to join this discussion of Hardwood in the kitchen. I am a little biased in this discussion because of being a tile contractor for almost 30 years. I have seen alot of hardwood kitchen floors. I have to give you the cons of putting hardwood in. Hardwood floors look great. As far as durability I am not sold. Hardwood floors look great when they are first put in. Depending on the traffic in the kitchen I give them about 4 to 5 years is when you see significant wear. I have seen alot of hardwood floors in kitchens with water damage. Now I know you think you wont have a leak from your dishwasher, refrigerator or a general plumbing leak. Well these things do happen and when it does the hardwood needs to be totally removed. Some times this is not so easy if the hardwood goes under the base cabinets. I am not saying do not put hardwood in the kitchen I think you should look at whats going to work for you. There are plenty of porcelain tiles that will give you the look of hardwood but give you the durability of a porcelain tile. Tile installed properly will last a long time. Hardwood will last but it will look warn to the point that it would need to be refinished at a cost around $2000.00 depending on the size of the room. I don't want to upset the hardwood floor lovers I have it all over my house except the bathrooms and kitchen. The floor is 20 years old 4 kids 2 dogs and still looks great. I am sure what ever you choose it will look great....See MoreIs this kitchen to minimum or just right ???
Comments (37)It looks very good James. Even though as you say it was a clients design build, it works fine. Once the Island has stools it will fill it out better. Has that naked look at the moment. The position of the wine rack might cause issues but overall it looks like a really clean and fresh kitchen. Plenty of natural light and the colours compliment each other. The extractor is a nice feature too. Everyone has different opinions as I see on here but if the client is happy with it then job done. Looks really well fitted too.....well done :)...See MoreNeed help choosing the colour of my hardwood floor
Comments (3)Matt finish walnut will show pretty much everything...the yellow 'doodle hair will show everytime it lands. The good news is everything is so dark you will only see half of the dog hair. A ligher floor in a dark home will have the same effect as a dark floor in a well lit home. You might want to look at a floor that is stained (like white or European Oak) with a mid-tone brown (2 steps lighter than walnut) and you will have your crisp definition between wood and wall AND you will have a floor that is more forgiving with 'doodle curls. And be aware that many people find a matt finishe VERY hard to live with. It shows every hand print, paw print, nose print, "skin" print you can imagine. Skin oils are SHINIER than a matt finish = shows up every time a finger, toe, foot, dog pad hits the floor. Everytime. A satin is easier to live with....See MoreLacuna Design
