Space is as per attached.

Looking for ideas on predominantly the kitchen and window / door layout.

In an ideal world would have space for breakfast bar/high chairs, 1.8m dining table and 2 seater sofa (or 2 x armchairs).

The garden surrounds the house, however, the key area for doors/windows will be the wall leading to the proposed deck area.

Any advice with basic layout of worktop, dining table and window space would be much appreciated.

I'm with Jonathan, I don't think you have enough space for all three. You could create a window box seat that for a soft seating alternative. Kitchen and dining space can work either side of the room.

Hey J,

What do you think of this layout?

Red: Kitchen with breakfast bar

Green: Dining area (approx 2m long)

Yellow: Seating corner (wood burner with 2 armchairs?)

Personally I don’t think the space is big enough for all three functions and I think you need to be realistic about the space needed around a dining table to allow people to move around, plus you need to think about the wall space needed for a kitchen for Fridges and ovens etc.

Happy to help ! I'm only a short swim away in England !! I think if you want a truly opulent cream for the kitchen cabinets - I'd suggest you get a colour match for the range ! It looks a very creamy cream ! Think it could be stunning ! Then have slightly lighter walls and tiles to keep the room feeling light and airy ! If you have walnut stain for your worktop on your island , I'd suggest using that on your exposed legs if you go for the dipped paint look on the table and chairs ! Are you having the classic CC shaped island ?!?

Lovely, much better than the 3D plan. V glad you kept your patterned floor tiles, I really like them. It's all come together very attractively. The only thing I'd change and this is just because I'm a colour freak is the pendants - I'd probably have made those red and orange or something. But congrats really, it looks great.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Agree with posts, probably around 2 metres short in length to address all your needs as otherwise will feel claustrophobic
Removing the breakfast bar and placing the table there would allow the space for a snug area
Otherwise back to the drawing board, I would say that 4.8m x 8 m would be a better sizing to include all your needs

You have space for a small island or breakfast bar with stools, plus a decent sized dining table. You could probably have a small occasional tub chair to the side of where you plan to put your glass doors at a push.

That’s already quite a lot of seating given the room size - why is it you want a sofa in there too? It’s a kitchen diner, but sorry to say not big enough for living area too.

You could have some nice outdoor sofas/outdoor seating on your deck for a living space during the nicer months. That will be more than enough chairs in this area then

There definitely isn't enough room for a 2 seater sofa, but if J isn't looking for a massive amount of storage in their kitchen, there's a little space left for 2 medium to small-sized armchairs in a corner.

@Wumi your plan is lovely, that window seat is just dreamy! After having a snoop on J's profile though, they're renovating a period home with very lovely features. The thought of adding a super modern extension to the back of something as beautifully kept isn't a great one. Keeping in context isn't always the best route but for this home & the immense character is holds, it seems to be the better alternative?

Good point Haru Design! Maybe it could be styled to look like a period bay with window seating? I've always loved the windows one might see on a Victorian artist studio.
