Front door colour and paint brand suggestions
Hi - I’m dreaming of warmer times and am booking in our decorator to overhaul our front door. (It needs planing, filling in places etc). So I’m now dreaming of colour. The door has previously been a denim blue colour (photo) and is now currently a Hague Blue match. I’m feeling very much over blue! Any suggestions? It’s a red brick terrace in a conservation area - most neighbours have white or black, although a couple have gone bright, which looks nice but my husband isn’t keen! Also, what paint do people actually suggest? I’ve read terrible reviews about F&B exterior paint, with reports of it failing after a couple of years. I love Mylands paints but they don’t do an exterior formula (they say their normal wood and metal formula is fine outside). I’m just a bit lost!! Also - should I paint the frame the same colour as the door? The white frame always looks a bit rough as there’s a piece that runs along the bottom threshold - so people stand on it, and the paint wears off!

We are one of their installers in Colchester and have four on display, if we are near enough pop in, if not just find a local installer. if you are after timber we supply Bereco, again go to their website, not cheap but beautiful. 3 years agoI’ve painted my front door in F&B exterior eggshell. It sits a little within an open arched porch so it’s a little protected, but it has fared quite well. Have you looked at Little Greene paints? Gorgeous colours and very good quality. I’ve used it indoors and I’m very pleased. I think the toughest exterior eggshell is oil based. Smelly but tough! LG do a colour called Celestial Blue which is more green than blue, but I think it will sit nicely with the red brick. Have a look on their website, there are lots of inspirational pictures. 3 years agoThis front door is also Celestial Blue by Little Greene. It stopped me in my tracks on a warm summer’s evening in a village in Wales. It positively glowed!
(I actually went back the next morning to measure the colour - but the lovely owners remembered what it was! )

As you say for Celestial Blue, perceptually a bit of both, as it belongs to the Blue-Green Hue Family. Depending on the light and time of day, it may shift more one way than the other.
At night it may even read a little silvery? I love it. It’s quite ethereal.Sarah U-S
