Suggestions for narrow hallway with bike storage

Hi
We have a communal hallway shared between 3 flats. The hole in the wall is currently being plastered over. One bike will need to be stored on the wall. It needs a repaint and the carpet needs taking up and replacing. Looking for ideas on what colours will not get dirty (so that when the bike comes on/off) but that also won't make the space seem small. When the front door is shut there is no natural light as there are no external windows in this bit. And any advice on flooring options (we want to keep carpet on the stairs to reduce noise) but something that is quite hard wearing would be great. Thanks for advice!
