Furniture home office Design Dilemma

Hello!
I am really struggling to plan my small home office in a new build property. My current setup is an old IKEA corner desk which I hate the look but I love being able to easily glance outside the window.

The room is 2.53x2.3m

Nice corner desks seem virtually impossible to come by - are they really unpopular?

I have attached the picture of the showhome but I was trying to avoid this layout because it’s just staring at the wall when sat on the desk.

I have thought about getting a custom desk made but all corner ones seem to be right angles and I don’t think that would be comfortable. It needs to be more shaped like a triangle

Hi Darren, Have you considered a corner desk along this wall, giving you a clear view of the window from the desk at all times.

If you work from a laptop position your desk right in front of the window. I did it for years and it was great. Now I have a three monitor set up so it works better against the wall but when I was on my laptop desk at the window is great.

HI -- gross635 -- Your right to some degree but you can't move the main floor bath to the other side because then that interfers with the floor plan on the second floor. Would not work . I would have loved to turn the whole plan around but it won't work in this case. Added note to what I posted before is to get rid of anywalls you don't need and also not every room has to have a door. Like the one on the lounge and the one at the end of the hall. I would open the lounge up by not having the walls on the entrance hall . As for a closet , there is space in front of the set back powder room for some coat hooks etc. I also question the fact of , if the lounge is really needed. Everything could have been shifted to the front and the kitchen set back , then that would have made a larger dining/familyroom area . But that would have ruined the resale value . So I think moving the bathrooms was the lest and best for this plan. One question I have , is this an English plan ?, because the English love putting doors on every room ?And usually the doors swing the wrong way.

Flooring for a home office that is all wood paneling and cabinets

I want to remove carpet and put in new flooring, NOT carpet. With all the wood on the walls, I think a wood floor is too much wood and too dark. What would you suggest for tile to lighten up the room with heavy wood?

Convert Detached Garage Into Home Office

I work from home, and now my husband does too. We're currently using our sunroom which isn't suitable long term as an office, so we're looking to convert about half of our detached garage into an office for us both. It's about 73M2 in total, and we'd like to convert the bottom half, leaving the front with the garage door etc. still intact and usable as a garage. We could incorporate 2 existing windows to the plan, and would just need to add an external door. One issue is that the garage houses our 1100LR oil tank, wouldn't plan on moving this, are there any issues with having this in close proximity? Also, any idea of what we'd be looking at in terms of cost. The approximate size would be 6.1M x12.6ML with roof height of 2.6. Thanks

Hello I would love to hear some advice on redecorating our open living/kitchen/office. When I first painted it we were going for that clean modern look of gray/white/yellow. Its been years like this and now with us working from home the room has a cold, office like energy to it. It's amazing how you can live in a space and not really see it for what it is. Looking at these pictures I'm ashamed to think this has been our living conditions for so long. Its been well over a year since we removed the fireplace I still have not gotten around to painting that bit of skirting board. The ability to make tangible improvements to my everyday reality has been right there at my fingertips and I failed to notice. ''High is the way but all eyes are upon the ground'' The large wall hanging was our latest attempt to add some colour. My girlfriend is drawn to those earthy colours or boho look. I'd like to make it a cosier/warmer space. With the great recommendations I've seen in other threads here I'm excited to see what advice you have.

Hi Darren,

If you are keep to have a corner desk have you considered contacting a local joinery company that could make you a desk top, and then buy some legs from B&Q (other DIY stores). My husband wanted a standing desk but with a larger top so he purchased the frame from Amazon and used a local joinery to make a top which then screwed on.

This then allows you to max out the space without costing an arm and a leg.

I understand how small your space is as my office is 2.5m x 2.5m.

I had not thought of putting a corner desk like that! It wouldn’t fit there but it could go against the right hand wall instead.

We have Everhot Electric Fires which are built for smaller spaces if you want some cool heat! (In our Herts showroom)

It would be great to add an uplifting feature wall into the space! We have a vast collection of murals which would look great in a home office, especially if you do have to position the desk facing the wall. Looking at something bright or unique is a bit more interesting!

I suggest a large standing up desk on the back wall, and you can still enjoy the view of the window on the right hand side. Similar to the picture below.

Currently planning my new home office (grown up child moved out & I've converted the bedroom so it can't come back!). It is 2.1 m x 2.3m & has to accommodate existing office furniture that we currently use elsewhere as budget is non-existent!

I've used an offcut from the lounge carpet (green check with a cream & a red stripe) though you won't see much of that after furniture is in place & leftover paint from the hall in a particularly decadent red (matches the carpet) on the biggest free wall - I'm hoping it will inspire creativity & passion for my work!

I will have a corner desk (1m x 1m on the right angle & 60cm 'depth') to hold a dual monitor & tower set up but also a straight extension off one edge of that (60cm deep x 1m long) which is in front of the window for when I use my laptop.

I'm not in yet but hoping that covers all the options. The risk is to stuff it full cos I 'need' storage but I kept some large high-up wall cupboards from the bedroom suite & they take lots of stuff without taking up valuable floor space. In the space between the bottom of the cupboards & the desk is whiteboard & pin boards made to fit. Good luck!

A side issue: I'd split the full width door into 2 half width doors (like French doors). The current door is so big and obtrusive.

Hi,
You may want to look at the John Lewis Abacus office furniture range, which I help to develope about 10 years ago. It's a nice quality light oak, wood veneered range, the corner desk is 97cm by 97cms, triangular in shape. The desk does not have a back on it, so can overlap a radiator without loosing heat output. The side return of the desk is only 42cms, and there are various modular units which butt up against it to extend the desk top and give useful storage. The add on on units comprise of two widths of cupboards and two drawer units, filing cabinets, even an 80cm wide additional desk to give two work stations if required. The reason corner desks work well, particularly in a small room is they don't take up a large footprint and the add on units are only 42cms deep, so the room still feels spacious. The range provides a nice quality solution for a reasonable price, without the expense of installing fitted furniture. I think Abacus is still the best selling range for John Lewis. Hope this helps.
