Flooring to match new kitchen

last month

we are moving to a new build & have chosen the kitchen, luckily staying away from any upgrades but we have to choose flooring which is not included so can get anything really within budget, I just don’t know whether to match with worktop which I guess can be tricky or go for complete contrast, surfaces are a light grey concrete type finish, units dark glossy grey, this would be for hallway, kitchen, dining & wet areas

If you want to stay with the monotone cool colour scheme then it would have to be a shade of grey or as per the image.

On the other hand if you want to add some warmth to it have a timber effect.

The two images shown seem to show very different colours. The upper one looks quite warm and the lower one cool and blueish. If the worktop is cool then I would go for a wooden floor or something similar to wood, its a warmer grey then a floor in a similar hue may work. I wouldn't have a cool grey floor.

I would suggest white cabinets with a dark grey Caesarstone counter. The splashback will be the variable with lots of options. This scheme is a lighter and more neutral alternative to the masculine dark grey. Both are great! Good luck, Mary

thanks for posting the photos. First, I feel like there is a mix of styles in the design that aren't really complementing each other. The waterfall walnut frame around the frig and wall oven areas is VERY modern. But the rounded front cooktop/bar, the divided light glass front cabinet doors, and molding on the upper cabinets are very traditional -- maybe even a bit 'cottage'. The looks are fighting each other IMHO. Also, I would reconsider the placement of the wall ovens -- they seem very crowded back in that corner. And the range hood going to the ceiling but the cabinets stopping short looks odd to me. Maybe a different hood with a narrower chimney would look better. And, is that the dishwasher on the island? --- Yikes -- I would want that right next to the sink (otherwise you'll be dripping water all over the floor everytime you load it)

I would look at the upscale vinyl flooring like karndean which comes is every conceivable finish and is very easy to keep clean and is very hardwearing and practical for a kitchen.

You should probably think of the floor covering in the overall plan as a light colour or dark colour may have an impact on whether you choose a light or dark colour for the worktop. Two different worktops, one on the island and one on the rest of the units might look well too. I like timber for an island but only if you don't need the worktop to be heat resistant and it's not near the sink. We've picked a dark grey for our island and will probably choose an off white worktop with a vein in it to contrast with it. Good luck with your decisions!

Wood effect would look fab. You can choose from wood effect porcelain (recommend under floor heating) or LVT. My sister chose quite dark chestnut coloured porcelain with her charcoal grey units and creamy green coloured worktop, but porcelain comes in many shades and patterns.
