Advice please :) Master Bedroom layout

Hi everyone, would love some advice on how to best layout a master bedroom. The only furniture we have so far is a king size (UK) bed!

Currently there are some very odd fitted wardrobes which we are planning to rip out. Unless anyone has ideas on how to improve them?

Attached images of the room furnished/unfurnished and floorplan. Biggest challenge I see is wardrobe/storage space - keen to avoid big chunky free standing wardrobe but not sure the solution! The window isn't to scale on the floorplan and limits what you can do with the alcoves, especially on the left, so thinking just shelving there?

Ikea Pax wardrobes are a great option. Sturdy and lots of options.

I agree the shape and placing of the wardrobes is rather odd. I would remove them. I can see an arch behind the wardrobe on the right? If budget allows fitted wardrobes on the opposite would look better and keep the bed where it is. I have fitted wardrobes and I love them. They give a very sleek and tidy finish.

Thanks Sonia - thats helpful! Yes there's an arch on the right. How much space do you think you need between bed and wardrobe?

Thanks for the suggestions. We have considered moving the partition wall and have asked our architect to draw sketches of the same but he's not keen on the idea! Great suggestions so far - any further ideas much appreciated!

You could create an ensuite by borrowing space from the second bedroom, accessing it from the master. I would create one large luxury family bathroom by joining the current bathroom and the adjoining room into one. If you don't want to lose a room, you could swap the purpose of the two rooms, creating a medium sized bathroom and a small box room/study (expensive for some benefit). Lastly, if you really want to maintain the number of rooms but gain a bigger bathroom, you could move the family bathroom to the bottom, right-hand room, if plumbing allows. Hope this helps.

I'm wondering if I share the ground floor plans would that make it easier to understand the house layout. As I'm thinking maybe the bathrooms have to be on one side of the house for plumbing reasons? Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you

Hi Laura, You want at least 700mm between the end of the bed and wardrobes, this allows you to walk freely through the space but 900mm is more ideal. I agree with Sonia though, keeping the bed against the chimney breast and having built in wardrobes on the opposite wall seems the most sensible option. Plus you can then make a real feature out of the alcoves. Maybe consider adding some dramatic lighting to the alcoves (floor lamps, pendant lighting or wall lights) or shelving works well too as you suggest.

Thanks for your recommendations! If I kept the bed as is, there would only be 730mm space to the opposite wall so I don't think wardrobes would fit! Perhaps the bed on the right hand wall (facing the window), and the wardrobe on the wall by the window?

Roughly how much are fitted wardrobes? I'm not sure my budget will stretch!

My wardrobes from Sharpes were £3400 for 6 doors, rails, shelving and a shoe pull out draw (which is rubbish so don’t get one of those!), but a carpenter will probably charge less.
