Vinyl flooring flood.

Hello folks and happy New Year. Around two weeks ago my ground-floor was completely flooded with water coming from a pipe inside the house. My current flooring is vinyl (wood finish) with underfloor heating. It doesn't seem to have experience any damage or anything. Do you think I might have any issues in the future with the glue or anything? The concrete underneath the floor, bellow the kitchen cabinets feels a bit wet, you can feel the humidity by touching it.Thanks,Pit

You should have a professional installer in your area take a look at your home so you can discuss what end result you are wanting. You may need to use an engineered wood. This is still an all wood product and is much more dimensionally stable than solid wood. This is a huge advantage if you are in an older home or in the midwest where humidity levels can drastically change from season to season. A solid wood will cup or curl if humidity and moisture levels are not managed. Your installer should do a moisture test before installation to make sure the installation does not fail. All warranties will be voided if this step is not taken. Also, your transitions will need to be considered. Is the new wood floor going to butt up to tile, carpet, or vinyl? The height difference in the two products will need to be taken into consideration. You will have a greater selection of thicknesses in the engineered woods. Engineered wood should be several plys, all wood. If you choose a solid wood, the hand scraped versions are fantastic for a high traffic area with children. Hickory, Red Oak, most Brazilian Species, and even Bamboo are hard enough to take everyday traffic and still look terrific. Good luck!

Laminate flooring throughout?

We put tile in our kitchen, dining room, pantry, laundry area, entry hallway and coat closet as it flows together last winter. We're very happy with it after having water damage our vinyl plank floor. The only issue we have with the tile is that it's slippery for our two older dogs, but they love lying on it in the summer. I have 2 area rugs in my L shaped dining room along with several throw rugs and and runner in the other areas to provide them with traction, and they do okay. We haven't found it to be cold unless we're having a cold spell, and then it's a bit chilly, but otherwise it's fine. We live north of Seattle. My in-laws put in laminate a few years ago, and my husband says the noise of their dogs toenails on it drives him crazy. It looks very nice though.

When we brought our house it had parquet in the kitchen, Before weIt has made had an opportunity to seal it our dishwasher flooded & they poped up. I recommend that u carefully research using it in a wet area before committing to it.

And also there is some original tile left and I was toying with the idea of tiling over that strip all the way to the wall to create a small corridor of tile as you come in the front door for the 'hallway' that once was, to add interest and a sense of separation between kitchen and hall because the door opens into the kitchen directly which isn't ideal (we had to do away with a small pocket door and partition wall there.) and then do the rest in marmoleum. Would this look weird or should I just do the marmoleum throughout?
