Are my floorboards good enough to be exposed?

Just bought my first house, and my daughter's bedroom has black carpet which needs changing. I really like the idea of exposing the floorboards beneath, having them sanded and varnished and then just putting a rug in the middle of the room.
Firstly, do you think the floorboards are good enough quality? I have included a picture of the inside of the built-in cupboard in her room.
Secondly, is exposed floorboards a good idea in a kid's room (she's 10 months old)?
I am thinking of doing the same on the landing and stairs and adding a stair runner too!

The boards in the cupboard are definitely good enough quality. The only issue is being pine and a soft wood it does dent very easily. if You’re happy to accept they may not always look pristine I’d go for it. We had our bedroom done last year and managed to dent them with a ladder in a few places within days but it all adds to the character 😂

I think putting an inexpensive engineered floor over the top would end up costing only a little more, will give you a harder wearing wood and a more predictable finish. I also worry that this floor has gaps that could help sound and drafts get in- laying something on top will help insulate.

I second Carolyn's motion to check out IKEA for a media cabinet although I feel you will need something around 30-36" tall with this particular TV. It appears to me that you have two matching loveseats or small sofas. Is this correct? In any scenario, if you want cozy, several have already offered thoughts that will help. First, although ideal, I do not feel that your cocktail table has to center on both upholstered pieces. You could center it on the fireplace and work from there, whether parallel or perpendicular. I agree that the upholstery needs to come forward and that the two large pieces should create an L formation. the chair should go to the left of the fireplace, at an angle. I know: Now it is partially in front of the TV. If the TV is on an appropriately scaled media piece, this allows TV viewing over the chair back from all seats in the room except the chair. At risk of being presumptuous, I would suggest that the TV need not be visible from EVERY seat in the room. Greys are definitely hot right now and I love them, but choose wisely. Greys combined with this intense red and black can plunge you squarely back into the 80's. Consider very warm greys, mocha's or green-greys. When you land your color, paint the walls, out onto the underside of the tray and onto the front facing edge of the tray all the same color. This will enhance the architecture of the tray and unify it as an architectural UNIT, enhancing the volume and dimensionality of this feature. As for the pale blue, I must say, I don't understand that at all in this room. (No offense mforr) Now, add a texture to the highest central section of ceiling. Think, grass cloth, faux finish or just a deeper version of the wall color. I agree with Carolyn that the panels are covering too much of your window and that you should consider losing the tie-backs, which are a bit cutesy. In a perfect world, or if you are up for it, I would replace them with something visually lighter, something with a large open airy pattern. I would make the cocktail table metal and glass or wood and glass and modern, even sculptural. (maybe a Noguchi repro?...) Large scaled art on the long wall, as suggested earlier and some greenery. You have a great foundation on which to build. Good Luck!

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

www.visioninteriors.ie Looking at your curtains and curtain pole, in my opinion it is the pole that initially needs to be corrected - it is a nice steel pole,however the importance of a pole being fitted correctly makes a huge difference to the hanging and look of the curtains. the brackets at each end of the pole should be at least 8"/20cm away from each sides of the window, this allows the curtains to frame the window nicely while letting in as much light as possible. The brackets should be 2"/5cm away from the finial ( ball end in this case) at each end of the pole. The space between the bracket and the finial (end of the pole) has one curtain ring only and the rest of the curtain rings/hooks are the window side of the brackets so that the curtains can hang straight. Whether you buy new curtains or hold onto your existing ones check out the fitting of the pole and remedy it - you will be amazed at the difference this can make.

I did the same with my living room but it became dented and scratched (I had dogs) and soon looked a little too rustic for my taste! It was also draughty. We then decided to lay a laminate floor over it which stopped the draughts and it is very hardwearing. It was only a temporary until we had the funds for a hardwood floor, but it still looks good in my opinion.

Here it is (colour is off in the photo, I went for dark oak mixed with a teeny bit of red). As you can see the gaps in my planks are bigger. I can’t say I’ve noticed any draughts tbh, I thought that tended to occur on the ground floor although Jonathan is wiser than I about such things! You can buy plank fillers like draughtex if needed but yet to test it.

I’m not sure how it would hold up with your daughter playing with toys when she’s older though unless the rug was big!
