Clashing prints.. no no or go go?

Household debate so hoping you guys can help us to make a decision :)
We have floor length grey and ochra lined curtains that were not cheap. My partner likes this rug as it ties in the black TV consol (which I hate) and wrought iron of the fireplace but I think it clashes too much.
The dog has ruined the current one which is similar but grey and cream.
Any thoughts?

I feel all the elements are strong in this room but are not completing each other. The tv unit is a big part of this, it is completing throwing off the room. Have you considered a lighter unit as this would make a huge difference to the space.

The curtains are lovely, as well as the rug, but im not sure they are working together. You are working with greys therefore adding cream is not ideal. As your curtains make such an amazing statement and you have pattern pillows I would try a plain rug.

When it come to the placement of the rug I would put it under the furniture as this will open up the room. Also have you thought about placing the footstool in the middle of the room, in front of the sofa.

I would also definitely go white if the windows are on the green wall. Will be much more natural to tie the accent wall with the stark wht contrasting walls. Always a very chic contemporary look. Also very relaxing as opposed to the treatments standing out when you already have your standout feature- the green accent wall. Great white bed you ordered! Then I love all the blue/green/ silver accent advice. I did a similar room in purples/greys/ whites and we used great posted prints of florals with a little oriental flair in nice big mats w frames. You could do florals or nice big botanicals in greens would be very fresh and modern!! White or silver frames or maybe even the shock of black would be cool.

What I'm actually wondering though is about mixing the metals - so having the chandelier and lamps with the touch of silver - or would I be better to source antique brass lamps like I have in some other rooms in the house - I kind of wanted to feature quite a bit of glass, and generally the glass comes with chrome, but I'm not sure if it's too modern for the sideboard etc, and mores worried about the clash of metals, but something tells me it might be ok in this instance! I have chrome taps and rainfall shower head in new bathroom and kept with antique brass for the light fittings and door/press knobs. Also yes the room is small but that's not an issue - it is what it is and I'm fine with it!

Agree with Judith too, paint all one colour as back wall. I like the fireplae and wouldn't replace it. That mirror it too big and not very interesting, doesn't do anything for the wall or the fireplace. The gold I suspect clashes with the metal on the surround, bit too new and shiny. I think a great piece of artwork would really set off the fireplace and make it a gorgeous focal point. As the fireplace is very angular I suggest a more organic colourful piece to soften it up a bit. A real painting rather than a print if you can. Keep an eye out at markets, second hand stores ... or even eBay!

Hi all, my living area is 630cm by 374cm. I’m going for a 2.5 Seater Sofa opposite to the tv. And on the shorter side I’m planning to put a chaise. So my 2.5 Seater Sofa would be in grey velvet and I’m confused as to which colour I should go for the chaise. Can I put a burnt yellow or pink blush velvet ? The room is lovely. The only thing I don’t like is the shiny tv unit. I used to have one and it always looked dusty even after dusting! Looking at the style of your room I think something like this would be more in keeping and a nice bit of storage too. The first one is by The Cotswold Company.

Rug and curtains look good together as the patterns match. Like the ochre to break up the grey. It’s a yes from me.

I'd let the rug go, personally. I tend to prefer more muted designs for flooring/rugs. That pattern draws the eye and as jagged and angular is a bit harsh. Nice sisal or jute with natural tones would get my vote. Would change the feel of the room considerably. I think you'd have less of a problem with the console with a less harsh rug. It's the double act that is causing the problem IMO :)

You've got a strong pattern on the rug that isn't currently balanced elsewhere in the room. You might find it helpful to change the wall colour. Do a sample board or ask a designer to do one for you. Off the top of my head try a strong, unsaturated blue like Fired Earth Tempest and pick it up in the soft furnishings or accessories.

I agree with Sonia that the TV unit isn't helping, partly because it's conflicting with the curtains and partly because its style is not consistent with the rest of the room. I can't judge the width of the alcove but wall mounting a TV on a bracket is often a good solution, so that it sits flat against the wall when not in use. You could consider building in some storage underneath and painting it a shade that ties in the rug and curtains and balances the floor.
