Flooring Design Dilemma Bedrooms

Help me choose carpet colour please! Egyptian cotton walls...

Hi

I've decided on carpet runners for my staircase and full width on the landing in the striped carpet shown in the photos. This seems to be the only option in the shop that isn't too expensive but also durable. First question, does it go with the walls?

Second question.. what would work best with the Egyptian Cotton walls in the bedrooms? All 3 will be getting carpeted at the same time and I'm trying to co-ordinate with what I've chosen for the landing & stairs. Do either of the greys shown go with the walls? One is a darker grey with a fleck, the other a tweed carpet (also very expensive..)

I'm I best looking at greys or browns for the bedrooms do you think? I thought the browns would clash with the landing carpet so didn't get any samples... any advise appreciated as always!

For me they’re too dark. Egyptian Cotton is a pale taupe/beige shade and the samples are very dark black/grey. I would paint Egyptian Cotton on an A4 piece of card and take that with you when looking at carpets, if carpet shops are open, so you can compare. Think taupe/beige rather than grey. Something like this

I’m with Sonia on this one. Lighter as opposed to darker.

Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Faux silk has come along way and can be a more appropriate material for home owners who live near the ocean and/or have South-Southwest exposure. Atmospheric conditions combined with direct sunlight is the most damaging. Replacing your panels with another set of silk/faux-silk panels might not provide enough of the design change your looking for. Here are some fabric design solutions that might get you going in a little different direction.... Our fabric sample size is twice the size of an Ipad.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find along these lines. I remember reading a rule of thumb suggesting a carpet should be a couple of shades lighter or darker than the walls.. would a lighter carpet look ok if it was a similar tone to the walls?

You are quite right, it is the tone that needs to be similar, for example in the bedroom pic above the carpet is a lot lighter than the wall behind the bed, but much the same as the side walls. It works because they are just a similar colour, but lighter and darker. The herringbone stair carpet is darker, yes a similar tone. It just works. Hope that makes sense! I have Egyptian Cotton in my bedroom and hall, stairs and landing. I chose quite a colourful carpet on the stairs because I love colour, but that herringbone one is lovely!
