Back garden design inspiration
We’re planning to repave the upper patio area but are at a loss as to what to do with the lower garden area. We like lawn but all feels a bit boring at the moment. Anything goes!

How about a circular lawn area with a path sweeping round it to lead you to an area at the foot of the garden for brightly coloured flowers, maybe a wildflower meadow? Then shrubs with a range of leaf colours to look down onto.
This is our garden, to give an idea of the lawn and path effect. One relatively recent, the other when first done.

My husband likes the idea of having two low comfy chairs and a small table for coffee/breakfast in the morning, like how I have set up in photo no.1. I like this idea and could add a few shelves above to fill out but then as you can see from photo no.2, this leads to a huge amount of unused space in the middle of the room! Anyone any ideas? Should we try a bar with bar stools instead to try and utilise the space better? I like the idea of a bar too but I need to be careful of kitchen door that it has enough space to open and that walkway to dining room and back door are clear. In the show house, the designer but a kitchen table and chairs here and the back room was a tv room but we are using back room as a big dining room with big table hence this weird space in kitchen to fill. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoHi, I thought oval lawn, circular patio and different shrubs and ornamental grasses. Think of various colours foliage and flowers. And I think you need a couple of trees to hide the view of the shed (or whatever it is on the left side) and of the not so pretty gate that the neighbours on the other side have. Those trees will also provide kind of resting points for your eyes and will guide them more slowly to the view. Sounds a bit strange, but it really works. I would also put plants at the foot of the wall, so when you look back to the house, you don't only see bricks :-)
I've mocked something up for you, to give you an idea...It looks a bit more formal than I would like, but that's because I've just copied the same shrub multiple times.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoHave to say that I do like the above mentioned idea with the path sweeping through the garden. And I would add a pond. Forgot to mention that. A pond is lovely for wildlife. I'd put it close to the patio at the back.
But the garden is a blank canvas, really, so you could do something entirely different too. More modern with rectangular shapes would also be gorgeous.
