Hi, The first 3 pictures shows the entrance to my garden from the outside and the last 2 what I could have to store tools, bikes, etc. Would this make the house look ugly? Is it worthy? Any opinions please? TIA
For me it’s a no. You are blocking a very valuable side access entrance. Why not just have a shed at the bottom of the garden? It can be painted so that it looks nice.
I have to say, a friend has a very similar set up because they are short of space - and theirs works really well. They still have gates / wide doors at either end, but it has allowed them to put shelves and hooks etc on the walls to help with storage. It isn’t ideal - but if it’s the only storage option that you have, it can work well. The only thing they have found is that it can become a bit of a dumping ground for things, so they are mindful about keeping it tidy.
Thanks both for giving me your opinions, much appreciated. The garden is small and want to use this shadow (for most of the day) space for storage. Yes, it can become a dumping ground, one of my concerns :). I guess I would ask a carpenter to build and install a narrow and long shed on the side of the pathway (where the bags are all the way to the fence at the entrance), it may work better.
The only issue with a long thin shed is that it narrows the gap and will make taking bulking items through to the back very difficult. At least if you go for your original plan, you will be able to open it up if needed to get things through.
we have a shed just like it. Its great we storage the bins, kids playthings and thingd like the sun umbrellas in there. its also used for drying washing in the summer if wet and waterproofs, pushchairs can ne left out when covered in mud. I also use it to protect plants from the cold.
Thank you aisling! I've been thinking about it and I'm more inclined to do it this way and your comment helped me think even more that it's a good option - I would also leave the pushchair in there, never thought about it!
Do you know if I need to request some sort of approval from the council or is there any reason why our neighbour would complain? We share the fence with the neighbour and we are the ones responsible for that fence in case of damage anyway.
sorry i don't know about approval. it was here when we moved in. we have it on a fence thats next to the road so no neighbours so cant help there. I guess the runoff from rain could be a problem for them
