what to put over fire place
Comments (3)Do you plan on painting your walls? I hope so. If yes than could also change your plan later. Be sure to look at the entire room before deciding how to decorate just one wall. I would consider a greige tone on the walls. As you have natural wood baseboards..(I like them), I would add tall shelves, the color of your trim to each of the alcoves. The bottom of the alcoves could be closed cabinets. Your TV could sit on one of them. Leave the backs of the shelves open for the paint to show through. You could display other art (including paintings) on them as well as books, photos, etc. I would not put a mantle above the fireplace as it looks more contemporary to be a clean look. I would place a very large framed round mirror over the fireplace, or a very tall vertical one, If every mirror were to only reflect a great view..there would be very few of them anywhere....See MoreNeed help for kitchen/living/dining area
Comments (8)Oh wow! Thanks everyone... So so much... I would never have seen some of the things that you have pinpointed. I have already got the cabinet and under cabinet lighting, it was turned off when I took the earlier shots. I totally get the suggestion to remove the cabinets etc near the window but would prefer not too just yet... I am back pocketing that for next year! I will add some items on top of the cabinets, and the artwork that you suggested too in the meantime. The window seat I had in mind was for the living room area, instead of the two seater. Would that look better than the two piece, with colourful cushions, and if so should I add a built I cabinet for the tv (right beside it) in the same painted wood colour as the window seat? Also should I put curtains either side of the window seat if I opt to go with that, or stick just with colourful roman blinds? I will look into fixtures for lights and have already started the fabric hunt for curtains/roman blinds/ cushions etc. Also, what colour would you recommend to accessorise the room with?...See MoreTo panel or not?
Comments (21)Hi Marie. It's difficult to tell how wide the room is but a round table could work at the foot of the stairs. Dress with a large bowl and plants/flowers etc. you could also try hanging 3 chandeliers or pendants down the hall. I would also have either 2 matching consoles opposite each other by the front door or keep your existing and add some seating opposite to create symmetry. I think if you were to dress the console with bigger items it would stand out more ie ginger jars on the bottom shelf, classic urns, plants etc on the top. Once you've got the basics done and budget permits, you can add further floor standing decorative pieces, a small chair etc. I think you definitely need some tall art by the front door though or even mirrors if you're not keen to add art...See MoreShould I put mirror over fireplace or over tv. mirror can only be 95 c
Comments (11)There are a thousand ways to use mirrors beautifully in a living room -- just not any old mirror in any old place, that I would agree with I think you should have art over the fireplace, and I see potential for using a scattering of small mirrors to bring light into the alcove and counterbalance the somewhat awkward angle of the TV. I'm assuming there's nowhere else to put the TV? I agree that the furniture in that corner is rather too flimsy to handle either the size of the TV or the bold black boxes of the fireplace and hearth. How about a striking floor vase? (Just resist the temptation to stick stuff in it.) https://www.etsy.com/listing/158899961/poster-geometric-print-a3-abstract-wall http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Natural-Bamboo-Floral-included/dp/B006O127GY...See MoreNicola M
