Help with carpet runners & colour scheme please

Hi All, I'm finally getting round to installing carpets and looking for advice.

Stairs & landing painted in Dulux Fossil Trace below dado rails and white above, I was planning to do a carpet runner going upstairs but it is quite a complex double landing so wondering how to finish it. Was thinking about stripes but don't know how this could be tied into the landing stairs & carpets? i.e. would landing carpet have to be striped too, and how best to manage transition from carpet runner to full width?

Also, the 3 bedrooms are all painted in Egyptian cotton and I was planning on carpeting them all the same in a neutral colour. What do you think would be the best combination to go for across stairs, landing & bedroom?

Any advice/pointers greatly appreciated.

Love your colour choices. We had a similar dilema and went for this. Carpet was edged all done by local carpet shop.

Thanks Eileen, looks good! So have you carried the runners all along the hallway? I'm debating whether to do this or go to full width carpet after the stairs

Hi elconno, Not sure if you are in USA but I would suggest two colors by Sherwin-Williams called Upward and Wallstreet. The pic doesn't do the colors justice but the dark one I would put only on the wall your fridge is on - that includes the little strip above the cabinets. This will make the fridge disappear a little and it will be a great wall for a piece of art with a lot of color - it will really pop! The lighter color will go well with any teal accents you want and brighten the space.

Never been to Ireland but when I think of Irish pubs, I think of rich mahoganies and deep jeweltones. Something welcoming and friendly with a bit of blarney; steeped in tradition with a sense of humor. My quick net search has turned up exteriors of mostly primary hues but a lot is going to depend on what type of clientele the owner wants to attract. I'm not sure that color is going to be your biggest hurdle. I think style is and once you determine that, then choosing the color will follow fairly easily.

Hi Louise, In a room like this I always like to keep the walls and ceilings ( including the small door and frame 1 colour...in this case a lavender. I'd start by finding colour chips that have the same colour as the carpet, and then go a few shades lighter but in the same tome. All baseboards and door to hall should be the same colour as the iron beds...off white. With the walls a colour you'll be able to see the pretty pattern of the frame. OR find a small scaled pattern of any of the shades of purple and the cream same as the bed frame) with the same fabric. Make custom bedding to match. In a small room 1 pattern works well everywhere. If you go the paint route, try to find fabric with soft gold, lavender, purple for a skirted table between the beds if there's room. You can put it on a cardboard table and base...found in some fabric or craft stores. Top it with a thin piece of glass ( Pier 1) and away you go.Don't be afraid of colour or small pattern in a small space, as you are going for the impact. Have fun! Shaila

I think you are right, I really like polished dark wood with grey and white - very contemporary Australian style. Just make sure that they are non-slip as anyone with kids will worry about this so make sure it is clearly stated in your sales particulars so you don't put anyone off - buyers can be so fussy about this slightest little thing. If not, you could always go for a runner thereby keeping the polished walnut but also having stair carpet but that seems like an unnecessary expense as you are selling. Good luck :-)

I'd go full width on the landing where there are bedroom and bathroom doors. Runner on half landing like Eileen would be nice. Lovely hallway floor BTW.

Steve, your entrance hallway is my hall envy- spectacular. I clearly wasn’t paying attention to your original post/query - apologies. If I had gone to bedrooms, I would defo have gone full width.

Just wondering if anyone has ideas for what colour would go with the green hallway walls and also the egyptian cotton colour bedrooms? Thanks
