Parquet advice please

I am refurbishing my open plan kitchen/diner and am very drawn to the many images I am seeing where parquet flooring has been installed. I am planning to have underfloor heating, so would need engineered wood. I imagine traditional herringbone would be very much more expensive to lay (compared to say, engineered wood floor boards or a tiled floor) - is it? Is the chevron pattern more popular because it comes as planks ?

Have you installed a parquet floor? Any advice ?
