Prefabricated side extension

Hi, just wondering if anyone has ever attempted or completed a prefabricated double story side extension? Have been mulling over my options and the reduced ground works, time on site and minimal weather disruption appeals.

hi All, I’m looking for advice on window colors. we’re doing a contemporary flat roof extension to the side & rear of a 1930’s house. We’re having a debate with our architect on what color windows to choose for the existing house & the new extension. does anyone have any advice on having chalk windows on the existing house & dark grey on the extension? I like chalk but our architect says it will be too bland on the flat roof extension which will be in a white cream render. thanks

The "L' shape which extends further on the right will give you marginally more light into it - but this depends on the design of the roof and glazing - which is vitally important to the end result. I would consider putting pocket doors from the lounge into the kitchen (keeping the size as is) to allow the afternoon sun to be seen from the kitchen. This space might be a better option for the playroom - depending on the age of your children etc. I would put kitchen on the right hand side. Could you put a door from hall into the bike store so you don't have to go through the kitchen? Consolation prize for this orientation is that the back right hand side of your rear garden will hold the Summer evening sun the longest - so thats where to put the BBQ!

3metre or 4 metre wide sliders for extension?

We’re extending house at the back. We’re tight on budget. We were going to use existing cream sliding door and add 1 more panel making it 3metres wide. This leaves 1500 mm wall on either side and add triangle window on top . Should we push budget out to get 4 metres with matching triangle on top. It’s extra 3k. Hubble doesn’t think it will make too much difference for that money. Opinions appreciated.

Hi, advice gratefully received. Love our new house, but the ground floor layout is not great. Long narrow kitchen facing east, garden is big so scope to extend. As it stands you come in from the hall into the lounge to get to the kitchen. I would like to have some separation so that the lounge can be closed when desired. Perhaps some double doors? I was thinking to use a chunk of the lounge and knock through into the kitchen which would also allow more light. Lounge is lovely and light, kitchen is dark after lunch. Ideal solution would be a side extension, but drains and pipes in the way so worried about the cost.. Would only require about a metre wide along the actual kitchen which I would then face towards the garden and create a sitting area. Any ideas welcome P.S. Conservatory is a junk room at the moment, facing a fence on the right hand side. The garage is used as a utility.
