HELP! kitchen damp has been fixed but need to redecorate on a budget!

We had the damp fixed just before the lockdown (phew!) and can now paint. However I am stumped and need inspiration. We have 2 children under 3 hence the clutter bomb mess (apologies) and I’m currently on maternity leave so we have a small budget of £300-400. I’d like to paint and make a bit of a feature wall where the dining table is. The kitchen was here when we moved in 3 years ago. The units are Ikea white gloss and the worktops are grey with light iridescent type sparkle flecks in them. I doubt replacing the worktop is within the budget and the floor is relatively new.

The kitchen also leads into our living room so I’m guessing the colours need to flow. I love geometric designs and would love your help with ideas for colours/patterns/accessories please

I’m sure I recall seeing a yellow/grey geometric wallpaper pattern.

Mary, I am very glad to hear from you. I think of you often. It hurt me terribly when that unthoughtful person said what she said. I can only imagine how it must have hurt you. I would love to see how you have decorated for Christmas. I am almost certain there are differences between how our 2 countries do it. Simplify is always a good strategy with play rooms. The temptation to cover the walls with artwork and posters can add to the visual clutter. I would suggest a larger area rug to ground the space and create a soft place for playing on the floor. A medium colour with a fleck from other hues in the curtains and upholstery will help hide dirt and lint. I think you could definitely cozy it up with a warm wall colour to unify the space. Lastly, closed storage for the toys goes a long way to creating order from the chaos. You will have a lovely space the children enjoy and you find restful.

Hello the days are brightening up by now and I'm sure the room is looking less drab for it. However I think furniture rearranging will work wonders. You seem to have nice low window sills: show them off. If the sofa goes to the left between window and built-in unit you'll have a view out to the garden and more light in the room. Equally: can you fit the piano between the radiator and the double doors? Again: more light through the window. Low sills are a god-send, and so many of us are stuck with high ones. The room will feel more spacious with a good view to outdoors. The armchairs then: one to the left of the fireplace and one between the other window and piano. TV then between the two windows. (No shine on the screen) Does that fit maybe? Or do you need all five seats facing the TV? I rather like those stripy cushions. Can you find a striped wallpaper in matching colors and with an irregular pattern repeat for your accent wall? if going with wood floors how about a sheepskin rug for each of your doggies? Black or white. One last detail. A lower table for your side lamps would be good: At sofa arm or seat height. Coffee table could work in corner between window and new sofa position. Btw: I liked the suggestion to replace the cupboard doors above the fish tank with full-height ones. In some kitchen shops you can find ready-painted, wooden, panel doors that might fit. It's a long shot but you could be lucky. It would brighten up the corner if you got a light colour.

Hi guys, Leelee we are definitely doing the vintage bits on the wall. We actually have some vintage cereal boxes that we are planning on displaying on the shelves (filled with cereal of course)!. Sarainitaly - I'm investigating thenIkea planner but it's painful to work (or maybe it's just me!). Here's a pic of the walls totally painted green now. Think the shelves will look great along with some pictures dotted around. It's the cabinets now that will b a pain! BTW it was pure enthusiasm that stopped me waiting until the water heater came off the wall to paint - lol. I will have to paint the patch when it's off.

I love that colour on your chimney breast (Oval Room Blue?) so could you carry that through? Paint is the cheapest way to decorate. Wallpaper can be pricey, but not all, and takes a bit of skill and patience to put up. How about adding geometric pattern with cushions and a rug?

Why not an accent wall like this? You can do any kind of design, it doesn't have to be squares. Since they're a fairly easy DIY, it should only cost you about 100 quid.

I might try farrow and ball Cromarty for the walls, you can colour match to Johnstone’s to keep the budget down. It’s hard to know what styles you like from the photos. Are you also talking modern geometric, lines or circles etc as you don’t have any idea books setup? That particular wall Is also a little tricky with a big radiator. Another idea is colour blocking, you’d need to incorporate the radiator within the design as they’ve done with the door
