Looking for some design ideas for my rear garden, the garden is 18m long x 10m wide, it is completely level at the minute.I'm looking to have car parking at the bottom of the garden as I have access via the driveway at the right hand side of the garden. I'm looking for low maintenance and dog friendly ideas, any drawing etc are welcome 😊
Here's an idea to start with: keep it simple, patio along the width but divided in two parts by a planting bed with a small decorative tree in it to give height and visual interest. Low hedge between patio and lawn to make it feel cosy. Then lawn. Hedge between parking and space for shed and bins, compost heap maybe. Brick path between parking and shed. I'd put another small tree at the end of the lawn, hides the view of the houses behind you and gives height and interest.
Hope I put the parking space on the correct side of the garden
Is there a service road at the back for you to access the proposed car park? In which case creating a service area for shed etc as Carolina suggested would be great. You could then create a fence and gate to hide that area and to enter the garden. A footpath from there to the house would be a necessity.
I think planting trees and shrubs without perennial flowers would be lower maintenance. Things like fruit trees (you can get dwarf versions), Mountain Ash, Amelanchier, Crabapples, Figs etc. Tall Shrubs that look after themselves but give nice colour are Viburnum tinus, Ceanothus, Cotinus, Photinia, Viburnum opulus, Choisya ternata Sundance. Smaller shrubs that are easy are Hebe, Euonymous, Cistus.
I have a garage at the end of my garden accessed via a service road and we have a side gate too. My garden is smaller than yours, but this shows you the layout. I don’t have space for a lawn so have sandstone paving instead.
