What to do with this space?

Hi All,

Looking to canvas some ideas for what I should do with this space, it’s a little odd! We were thinking an artificial log burner in the middle alcove and perhaps stacking the one on the left with logs, but what to do with the right?!

Open to all sorts of ideas! I should say that the television needs to go on that side of the room too! 😩

You don't say what space this is to be used for. Is it a spare room, so you need a bed?

A living room so need sofa?

I'd probably block the alcoves and build in some storage

Wow, I really like this design and the rest of the house....really has a lovely flow to it and is very bright. My only concern with opening up the original living room to the hallway would be that the existing house is poorly insulated and would leave the front room cold during the winter. I imagine the existing front room as a dynamic room in that the doors to the dining room can be closed, a stove fire turned on and it would be a quiet reading/relaxing zone in the house. Though I must admit...the above example provided is really tempting. thanks Dytecture!

What a unique space. I love that this isn't necessarily symmetrical. This can sometimes pose a challenge however when trying to unify a space. I would approach this dilema by addressing it with color rather than objects. Try painting inside of the bookcase shelves and the alcove a contrast color. This will allow the walls to recede and the fireplace to come forward adding depth and dimension. Here are a couple of color suggestions based on your existing furniture. C:\Users\patron\Desktop\COLOURlovers_com_daisy_101.svg Also if you place a decorative rod and scarf on the window behind the sofa that would take away from the attention going towards this space and eliminate the perception that something needs to be placed there. What to do with alcove

I have a very strange alcove in my hallway that I'd like to sort out. It used to lead to a room but the doorway has been permanently blocked up. There is a radiator and a wall light, both of which aren't helping when I try to think of what the alcove could be used for. The rad could be changed but must stay in the alcove. Any ideas would be hugely welcomed! I would consider a nice piece of furniture or shelving but with the radiator I just can't think how I could make use of the space. thank you!

North facing city garden: what frivolous thing would you do?

I live in a captail city and I'm soon moving into an apartment with a 400 square foot/38 square meter (north facing) garden. For a city center (and for someone who has only ever had a balcony) this feels like a lot of space! I want to do something really special (maybe a sauna and a fire pit), but what would you do if you had a mostly sunless city garden to play with? Hot tub? Chicken coop? Trampoline? Art shed? I'm looking for fun ideas that inspire me (and then I'll worry about budget and planning approval). Thanks!

My first though, although I can’t see all of the room, is to create a tv shelf with more shelving above it in the alcove between the two fireplaces. I have an electric faux wood burner and it is great for these chillier nights. You will need more heating once winter sets in. The other fireplace could house logs but you could build a door in front of it creating a little cupboard and some shelves for storage - you can never have too much storage! Here’s some ideas and a pic of my electric woodburner.

It's a bit difficult to get an idea of at what height the sloping roof starts. But I do like your idea of a faux log burner in the middle alcove. I'd close off the other alcoves and put shelving in front of them, one side for TV and the other for books or whatever else you want to put there.

I'm looking at the lovely curved window on the left, I would consider that being the focal point. If it's all painted a light colour it will always cast dark shadows and draw the eye. I had an issue with really narrow but very deep alcoves in my lounge, I had to paint them a really dark colour to make them shrink. I looks like there was once a cupboard in there, I quite like that idea.
