am not at all creative and hence really struggling to make this space look cosy and beautiful. Not facing the sun so want to avoid making it too dark.Would love and appreciate the ideas..House with 2 kids..so please excuse the mess..

I disagree with the above comments. If you're open to big changes, especially if you plan on replacing the fireplace, you could install a lower mantle, and install the TV above it on a swing arm. This way, the TV and fireplace will remain the focus in the centre of the room, while still being able to view the TV wherever you deem most comfortable on any given day. I think the oblong shape of the room would allow for a couple different seating arrangements. Looking at the second image (fireplace on the right), imagine a compact love seat with it's back facing the double doors. Across from the love seat, 2 accent chairs, backs facing the photographer. Add a coffee table of your choice, and you now have a conversation space in front of the fireplace that is also ideal for watching TV. Thinking about the space behind the love seat, closest to the double doors; a half-height, full-width bookshelf would be lovely along the right wall (left of the fireplace), or even a cushioned bench seat with storage underneath, or both! One orientation to the right of the fireplace, and one to the left. Behind the love seat you could place a console table with lamps and accent decor that would create a visual division, making each seating area seem more intimate and purposeful. Add a full-width, floor length set of drapes on either side of the double doors and area rugs under each seating area and Bob's your uncle!

Love white walls, especially with colorful art or black and white photos. Move the sofa/love seat next to the table...make it look like a sectional. The rug may work...but a bit too small. Your artwork is too small and way to high. May I suggest a gallery wall? The art work should only be about 8" above couch, unless you have little ones then I totally understand. Buy some frames and start experimenting with your photos...some black and white, some sepia, blow them up. Should span 2/3 the length of sofa. Lots of ideas on gallery walls on Pinterest.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Hi im looking to get a new sofa for my living room . I currently have an L shape but and not happy with it . There is only one really wall which I think it can be placed and its infront of my window which I think is blocking light ? And is against curtains . I'm thinking of also get roman curtain blinds in a pelmet box to avoid that ? I'm looking for any advice or inspiration I don't mind changing the style decor of the room ? Also I need storage for toddler toys so need to redesign and layout Photos in comments
