3 years agoSo you are not removing the door? We blocked up our back door when we had a new kitchen. The door and frame was removed and the hole was bricked in (See pic below). You can just see where it was as the bricks are newer. If the door is staying then you could put a dwarf tree in a big pot and stand it in front of it. Something like a dwarf ornamental cherry, but there are many species.

Comments (10)Hi there, First of all, what a lovely space - the floor tiles are a really gorgeous feature! With these windows, it really is up to you. Shutters are fantastic for creating a clean, uncluttered feel, while, as Colourhappy says, a Roman blind is a great way to add a luxurious feel. Both create a classic look that will never go out of style. Alternatively, as you say, curtains are a gorgeous choice. Floor length curtains would create a real sumptuous look, but you may want to consider how this might block your radiator, especially if you intend to open and close them regularly. Comments (7)Dear Éilíse Sullivan, the mahogany wardrobe looks like a great project! The image is too small for me to see the details of it; it looks like has glass/metal door at the top part and design details on the draws. If you send me a better quality image and with the door closed I can visualised it for you in any other colour you like if it helps. Replacing part of the furniture (glass) with solid panels covered in wall paper or fabric, using decoupage for the inside of the drawers or muted colours on the outside and brights on the inside ... are all possibility depending in which room you want to place it and what you are going to use it for. Are you going to do it for yourself, just for fun or to sell/present? I would paint the back panel in a darker colour, also the inside of the wardrobe part and all the horizontal and vertical straight lines to frame the different units: draws, 'open shelf' cabinet at the top and door. I would go for wall paper on the inside of the draws, something sympathetic with the darker tone on the back panel ... the handle can stay or be replaced (I need a closer look); they can really give a wist to the furniture if changed. For the choice of colours ... it really depend on where it goes and what you want to do with it. The room's images you posted are quite different in style. You could try to 'blend' the piece in to the room's design scheme by choosing complementary colours or go the opposite and bring in a bold statement. I like bold statements! Comments (3)Sorry pics not great only discovered this section of Houzz yesterday and in my excitement id posted before Id even finished the sentence.The second picture down is from the opposite side of room where there is a blank divider wall. 10ft tall wall fit for dresser large picture ,furniture and so on.Kitchen has a couch TV and dining space so didn't want to use sunroom for any of that really as I don't need a formal dining table.I had thought of the queen Ann chair look with the low coffee table maybe a run underneath but after that I am a bit lost ,like the idea of the lamps for affect.Thank you for your responses....See Morekitchen design dilemma
Comments (0)Hello everyone! I would love some advice on how to design the kitchen in our new build. As you can see from the design there is a long 4 m window at the front of the house. This will be quite low and will be 50 cm high, so basically it will act a bit as a splash back. So my question is: can I fit in 4 tall cabinets in the kitchen (1 for oven- 60 cm, 2 as pantry - 60 cm each and 1 for the fridge-80 cm)? I am starting to think I need to shorten that window as I would like the keep the feel of the kitchen bright and airy with an island with seating without over crowding the space and not blocking the passage into the living room on the left? Thoughts anyone? Ps: please disregard the design suggestion on the plan, it was put down in the first draft by the architect....See MoreCharlie Young
3 years agoThanks both. I'll be bricking it up, but it's got a prominent arch, so I think your advice of 'hiding it' behind a tree will be the most effective approach
Also, the terrible tiles are going!
