Kitchen re design
Comments (7)Hello Edele, Well one way to maximise space is to reconsider the appliance aspect. So for example you could have a free standing range oven.. which will have hob and oven in 1 piece. This could give you much more space to play with, so possibly you might want a double height fridge, which would be best placed to go at the other end.. The other thing you could easily do is take out those shelves above the worktop and instead have a row of shelving on the rear wall.. Then you could have a row of cabinets all along the top. This gives a slightly different feel to the kitchen, making it more streamlined but also potentially offering you more storage space.. Re positioning the cabinets and painting them can also achieve a new look whilst using what you have.. Replacing the handles with touch/open mechanism hinges on the inside also gives the cupboards a really stylish appearance and nickel or brass (depending on colour of cabinet door) cup handle for the drawers... . If you were to take away the armchair.. you may be able to move along the table a little, add two chair to the head of the table to seat 6 and then at the other end on the far wall (where I suggested some shelving) have a butchers block or table for additional food prep... It could have wheels so you could use it when dining for serving and so forth.. : ))...See MoreWin a design consultation at The permanent tsb Ideal Home Show!
Comments (74)Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. Thanks, Laurie...See MoreSpace saving sound isolation or rework the design
Comments (0)My architect came back with floorplan drawings for my small, city apartment. One major change that was off brief was the location of the bedroom- he moved it to the most logical spot however the wall the bed would have to rest against shares a wall with my fraternity neighbors' bathroom (you can imagine what I hear but the biggest issue is vomiting noises). The only way the design would be livable is to install sound isolation (or dampener etc) to that wall and the room is already very tight (I can't afford to lose more than a few inches of space as it won't be possible to get around the bed). The design is already a challenge because the apartment is in a pre-war, protected building (walls cannot be removed). Do I ask the architect to go back to the drawing board (the whole design needs to be rethought if the bedroom is moved) or is there a sound proofing solution that may work?...See MoreSteel beam design dilemma
Comments (3)Yes, in the netherlands soil pipes are preferably as vertical as possible, and internal not exterior, the basin and shower drains all go in there to keep it wet and thus stay cleaner. And electrical wire needs to go into 12mm pvc, so over here the wire under would require glueing 12mm fillers to the steel. Yours doesn't, so instead of rewiring, you might as well leave it and box it in as is. I guess having the white pipe connected to the soil pipe would make the most difference, as the box width would significantly be reduced....See MoreUser
