Front door advice please

Looking to get our front door replaced. After advice / suggestions for a modern front door that would work behind porch doors (which we are keeping!) and let in lots of light to our hallway while maintaining privacy.

Honestly...... do you keep the porch doors shut like that? If so, it's going to affect how any door behind looks. You could have the most beautiful door, but with those porch doors closed over the front it's not going to look the same.

A plain, all glass door would be best. If you do keep the porch doors closed then I think you need something with no design/lines etc on it as together with the porch it's all a bit much.

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

I want to stain the front newel and banister and then i am painting the spindles white. All i want to to darken it a bit but to create a nicer contrast but not too dark. I am just unsure how to stain the banister or what product to use?? I was in woodies and they advised me to use the Ronseal interior Varnish that is a 2 in 1 stain,So i was thinking maybe a dark oak maybe has anyone used this? Or should i use a separate stain amd then clear varnish??? Do i need to pre-stain the wood with a conditioner?? I have sanded it back with 80 sandpaper. I plan to use BIN primer on spindles and then satin finish, to avoid sanding each one. Any advice appreciated, as im a bit of a novice!!!

I would look online at the 2 major door suppliers which are J B Kind and LPD Doors. They have 1000s between them to give you inspiration. They’re both trade only suppliers but will advise you of local trades people.

I would put a nice nice front door at the front of the porch and over the glazed doors into the bit where you enter the house. Personally.

Yes the first set of doors leads into the porch. We have our main front door beyond those. I like having the porch so not looking to change that just the door beyond.

Just leave the internal door as you cant see it anyway, or replace with something similar. Really no sense in spending huge amounts of cash on something that's hidden behind those glass porch doors. I'd save money on door and spend the money on some nice big planters!

Thanks yes not looking to spend loads but I can see it when I’m in the house and really disliking the flower pattern that we’ve lived with since moving in! Yes planters are on the list! Thanks for commenting

You could probably get the glazing changed for minimal cost using a local glazier if the door is in good condition.

Choose anything thats not a UPVC door and it will look better - from the inside and from those brief moments outside unlocking it on the way in.

I've heard bad things about solidor, went for Endurance composite and no complaints so far - a lot is dependent on the vendor your fitter uses.
