Need ideas to decorate my wall
Comments (15)Once again, carolins has taken the words right out of my mouth. I sometimes feel like a crusader for entertainment centers and lowering art! You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there....See MoreNeed help to dress up my dining room,am thinking of cream panelling,ra
Comments (33)If you want custom cream panelling built from scratch, it is likely to take you more than three weeks to line up a contractor, get it built and then painted. If you want to use beadboard (thin, lightweight, cheap) you can do it yourself if you are good at the small precision cuts around the wood window trim and behind the radiators. You can get a custom built wood cover with doors for your tv or use the painting over tv disguise made with hinges. I think the room is beautiful as it is. Spend some money on a truly beautiful, impressive chandelier, have it centered over the table. If you want to impress relatives at an event, the chandelier is the way to go. Clean the windows for extra sparkle. If you are in the US, try Home Decorators http://www.homedecorators.com for DVD storage cabinets that are closed. I would not get a rug for this room unless I was ready to get it cleaned frequently and I could find one that looked good with dog hair on it and did not show stains. A good quality, highly patterned wool Oriental rug will do that job nicely. Such a rug is an investment and may take longer than three weeks to find....See MoreNew house, new baby no time
Comments (12)If painting, use low VOC paint. When replacing things, look for low, or non outgassing furnishings. No sharp corners on tables etc. Choose safety features on blinds to eliminate strangling on cords. Non breakable ornaments/bowls down low. Breakables and hot coffees up high. A chest for toys, but sand down sharp corners. A small chair. Any tall furniture should be affixed to wall with brackets. Don't be in a tearing hurry to remove all kitchen walls that can have a baby gate attached to them. Burns by scalding in kitchens kill and maim....See MoreNeed help for my Living Rooom
Comments (31)Thanks Decoenthusiaste! Yes that sofa is unavailable here and hard to find anything similar in local stores, but I may have one made up! So yes I’m using the images you post as inspiration and hope to find similar items here, I also love the grey Scandanavian sofa ideas you had earlier, and will use them as inspiration to get a lighter replacement. The blind on my window is screwed in place, but I could easily replace it with something that would let in more light, like the top down blinds (which are new to me!). I’m really glad no one has thought the absence of curtains an issue, as light is scarce here & I prefer the no curtains look. I do agree we should move the car to another part of our drive to get a nicer view out. A radiator cover that could double as a shelf would work well I think, I love the bespoke one, how cool! Also good to find out that you can get ones that allow the heat to rise. Re the music centre, I might replace with an iPod doc with speakers as Glo kindly suggested, In meantime I might cover it (and the dreaded TV!) with a piece of framed art leaning from the floor, aware that’ll be another competing focal point, but hopefully a nicer one! Thanks a lot for the tip re dimensions for a piece of art over the sofa and a coffee table, both of which are on my list to get, I would’ve had no clue re this and it’s fantastic to discover that there are certain rules which, if you apply them, can make your room work visually! Thanks again for the brilliant advice, I really appreciate it....See MoreUser
