Wall colour ideas please
Now we've painted the fireplace we need to sort the wall out. Fireplace is white, wall has a light coat of white paint on, just evened it out after we removed the layers of wallpaper!
The living room currently has Dulux chic shadow below and polished pebble above picture rail. Been like this for 5 years so happy to change.
I have no chic shadow left, happy to buy more but also happy to just paint fireplace wall a different colour? Maybe navy blue?
Thoughts, suggestions welcome. Thanks

Comments (6)Hopefully, you have investigated your existing building conditions. Have you consulted with a structural engineer as to whether the third floor framing can hold the additional live load and existing rafters can handle the changes as well as increased insulation depth? Have you talked to the building department to determine whether the available floor area based on ceiling height meets zoning requirements? Is access doable with a stairwell from the 2nd floor that meets fire and building codes? These are just a few questions that need to be asked. Comments (10)Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. 3 years agoI've got a very deep olive green on my kitchen wall with shelves. It is quite hardcore and very retro. Little Greene 'Light Bronze Green. Bancha (below) by F&B is less yellow and a bit cleaner and grassier.

3 years agoDulux Overtly Olive looks nice. I’ve not used it, but am thinking of it for my kitchen once worktops and sink has been replaced. It’s quite pale though?

3 years agoI like the deeper colours that Colourhappy suggested. Here both are in your room. But get some swatches of colours that appeal to you and get testers of two or three of the most appealing. Or just let father in law paint away and have him do it again if you don't like the result ;-)

Thinking of ordering today though.... loving Green Smoke? Originally liked Bancha, but might be a bit too green? It's north facing. Only use this room at night. Couple pics of how it currently looks, ready for painting after the many layers of wallpaper have been stripped....

It sits just into the Green Hue Family. Here are a few more colours to compare it alongside.
They move anti-clockwise from it, back into the Green-Yellow and Yellow Hue Families, where some of the more olive toned greens live.
You can compare them by Hue Family location.(see the arrows)
You can compare them by Value. (Lightness)How light or dark do they appear?
(the higher the number the lighter the colour)
You can compare them by Chroma. (Colourfulness)How strong + colourful or weak + near neutral.
(the lower the Chroma, the nearer to neutral.)
You can compare them by LRV. (Light Reflectance Value)Percentage of light a colour reflects or absorbs.

3 years agoI like Green Smoke but I’ve never seen it in real life so may be worth getting a match pot to be sure. There is also another deep green which looks a bit olive, but not much, called Treron, but I’ve only seen it in photos. I would keep the bit above the picture rail the same as the ceiling. 3 years agoSo, decided against the original Navy blue, and then decided against the greens.......... looking at the original pic, it probably looks like I have not actually painted the walls!!!
We had Dulux Chic Shadow for the last 5 years, it had been painted over about 4 layers of wallpaper.
All that wallpaper has now been removed and all the holes filled in so walls were ready to get painted but I just couldn't decide.
Since our Christmas tree would be arriving in a matter of days, I dug out a 10 litre tub of Johnstones Manhattan grey that was in the garage and just got father in law to do that, it means we are not looking at bare walls over Christmas! And we can paint over after if we decide to!
Although its called grey it appears blue sometimes and then sometimes even a bit of green - as well as looking grey sometimes - maybe its just my eyesight!!
After all that!
