Painting living room with high ceiling

Im hoping for some advice on paint colours for a living room/den that has high pitched ceiling. The house is a new build. Modern barn aesthetic.

We are thinking about a different colour in the den to make it feel cosy as the rest of the house will be off white + oak.

Are there rules of thumb I should follow? Should the walls and ceiling be painted the same or should I leave ceiling white? Are there different rules when the ceiling is high?

The pic shows the dimensions of the den. Both windows go floor up to where the ceiling starts to slope up. Pitch is 45deg.

We will a TV on the wall where the SS is and brown leather couch facing

Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. I contemplated going with a different lighter sofa colour but practicality won in the end!

Two ideas. Both times I would block up the entrance to the second half of the room to make more usuable space. Both ideas have a island with a dining table attached. Obviously these drawings are not to scale but everything should fit in. I would utilise the kitchen cuboards for utilities- intergrated appliances. If you can dont forget to use the space under your stairs as well. Also use the long wall at the bottom of the stairs for extra storage and alcoves.

You can paint the inside of FP opening charcoal and then I would go for a blue/grey and not greige. Those colors tend to be very dark. You have black furnishings and a blue/grey would look very fresh. Your art above FP has blue in it, so replace rug and get some pillows for sofa that will bring in the colors of the painting. Why not just put in some shelves, one big enough to hold tv. That would give a more open concept to room. If you need one enclosed to store components, that would fit also. I would not build up too high on the wall.

Curtains for living room nook & large slider patio door in kitchen

Finally decided I need curtains on living room nook window to give room a warmer/cozier feel. Living room has high ceiling which extends beyond upstairs balcony. House is open plan so living room also opens into kitchen which has a large slider door to outside patio. I also need this door covered/curtained. The large patio door is visible from the living room and the living room windows are visible from large patio door in kitchen. Have fabulous views from windows so don't want curtains to take from that. Need advice on color, fabric, length etc. Any suggestions appreciated.
