I've always had Steel ones but am looking to install quite a large 1800 x 800 bath in my new project and there is a big price difference between Steel and Acrylic. Ive installed many Acrylic Baths and they feel quite cheap to me but don't think ive ever used one! We will be living in this project.
I was having the exact same debate this time last year for the same size bath. I’m the end, despite seeing lots of lovely reinforced acrylic baths, we went with a Kaldewei steel bath - and it is lovely!!! I chose my model and then hunted around online for the best price. I ended up getting it from QS supplies in Leicester because they’re relatively local to me. Top tip though - if you know your size, keep an eye on eBay as there are quite a few brand new ones on there from people who change their mind or there are often ex display ones, all at a fraction of the cost. Unfortunately for me, I had my eye on a particular model - and the only ones that I could find were miles away.
I’ve had both, and the acrylic bath ended up with a dent in it when my husband dropped a tool in it. Luckily it didn’t pierce all the way through. We changed it to a steel bath and it was much better. Cleaned easily and a lot tougher.
I bought our pressed steel one from B&q and there wasn't much between it in price from the better acrylic ones. When we moved into our house there was an acrylic bath which was fine for bathing but awful when using the over bath shower. Just didn't seem substantial enough.
