What kind of mirror?
Just re-plastered and painted my chimney breast and I’m stumped as to what kind of mirror to have on the wall.
We’re planning to have a floating wood shelf similar to what’s pictured (a nod to a mantlepiece) and the opening will be tiled in an emerald green scalloped mosaic and be used for ornaments.
Any suggestions as to size, shape, or material would be welcome, I’ve been scouring the web for the last 3 months and still can’t decide. Please help!

3 years agoHave you looked on Etsy? There are thousands of crafts people making all sorts of things including mirrors. I found this rustic one. Round mirrors are very on trend too.

I was contemplating putting a similar light like yours above the cabinet, but decided I prefer lights on either side, as there is a lot of space which I'd like to fill a little. I will also put them on top of tiles, so another point to consider. The ones I had chosen only protrude 90 mm from the wall, so I wonder if they should protrude at least the same as the cabinet, which is 150 mm, to illuminate the face, when putting on make up or in general. Comments (0)Hello there. I’d like a change from my over mantel mirror which I feel is out of proportion. The width of the mantelpiece is 140cm and the height from the mantel shelf to the coving is 108cm. I’ve got my eye on this one from Laura Ashley which comes in either 60cm or 100cm diameter. I’m drawn to the larger size but that will mean probably resting it the edge on the mantelpiece because of the restriction of the ceiling height. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI'd keep it simple and go for a round mirror, thin frame. Dunelm has a nice selection I think (judging from website). You can test out the size by cutting out a piece of paper in the shape/size of mirror and taping that to the wall with low tack painters tape (or stick normal painters tape to your clothes a couple of times to remove most of the stickiness ;-) )
You'll have quite a lot going on already, with the mantle and the tiles and the book shelves. Hence my suggestion to go for a simple round one.
This one has a 1950's vibe and is a bit different, don't know if the size is right (and you may not like it). Also from Dunelm:

Finally got our print back from the framers! Still got finish flooring and skirting but shelves are up in the alcove and the room is looking a little more homey.
