What colour tiles for dark Victorian hallway?
I want to brighten up our hallway as we don't get much natural light. We currently have engineered hard wood flooring with floor boards underneath but I'm not sure what condition they're in. I do love the idea of tiles but I'm undecided on what colour. I'm completely new to his group and a novice at decorating/interior design so any tips/advice would be hugely appreciated.

Comments (2)I'd look for something that looks great with the irisses in the windows, the colors at least. Something Art Nouveau or Art Deco, botanical, floral. Metallic silver/beige will reflect lots of light. But I would leave the low stairs' walls (rail) as they are (painted offwhite) and only paper on the high wall leading up and the wall without stairs (opposite side). Comments (8)Maybe if you stuck to one colour scheme such as white and purple or grey and lime green, colours that compliment each other. You could have a cabinet on the larger side with some family photos or a mirror above it and maybe a single colour on the top half of the wall and a complimentary wallpaper on the bottom half. You could go for wood on the floor or a simple soft carpet but it might get muddy. You could also have a bench with storage underneath for shoes and bags, but try get a colour that matched the walls. 3 years agoAvoid ones with too much white. My sister’s new hall floor is white and pale grey tiles and she says it gets dirty with just one footprint. We have to walk on air when we visit 😂. However, saying that, most of them have white in them somewhere! There is a huge array of Victorian tiles out there so just visit as many tile places as you can. You can’t always rely on photos or catalogues. If your floor is wooden, the floor needs to be boarded first to create a good stable base for the tiles. Here’s a few I found online

As above, there are a tonne of options out there for classic Victorian hallway tiles.
What would be interesting to see, is how the rest of your house is styled as the hallway is the connecting element between all rooms/spaces and therefore needs to flow into each space, without fighting with the adjoining floor.
For example you could also use some lovely encaustic tiles, such as these (not necessarily pink of course!) by https://www.ottotiles.co.uk/sakura-encaustic-cement-tile:
Mirrors are a great way to get light in and bounce it around too!
