Wall paint colour for hallway suggestions

We done the kitchen at end of last year.

Now need to sort the hallway.

Would happily have your thoughts on paint colours for the walls.

Planning painting up to picture rail, then above and ceiling white.

However I am open to suggestions!

Thinking it can take a dark colour, perhaps navy.

Front door is glass and from front door you can see out to garden so lighting is not an issue.

I should add, assume it is empty. The only thing that needs to stay is the flooring!!

There are several ways to visually widen a narrow hall and shorten a long hall. Floor: To widen a narrow hall use a diagonal floor treatment, e.g. stencil large diamond pattern on floor. To shorten the hall, use two or three runners to break up the length of floor rather than one long runner. Walls: Long walls can appear shorter by breaking up the horizontal lines.. Hang a large painting, print or tapestry on the end wall or paint your door an accent color to create a feature. Another way to shorten a wall is create vertical sections on the wall. Trim can be used to create panels, groupings of art can create sections or large objects such as a mirror can define the segments. Directed lighting illuminating these section will also de-emphasize the length of walls. Ceiling: Minimize the visual impact of a long hall by bringing attention to the ceiling. One approach is to align the panel wall sections with ceiling panels or coffers. Or hang interesting pendant lights or a bold chandelier to redirect visual interest away from the walls.

i'd do charcoal or lighter grey with charcoal in it., ideally hung to the ceiling and touching the floor. measure floor to ceiling, buy the length that covers the most space, put the rods at that height.

If you painted the wood skirtings (removed in photos) and door frames, in the dusky blue from the tiles then did the walls in white to bounce light around the hallway as they can be a bit dark I don't think it would look clinical because the use of the blue would add a little drama and look very up to date. Alternatively you could use a deep grey. I haven't seen this done much but when I have it has looked well.

I have a similar dilemma,. My doors, frames and skirting are currently varnished wood. Would like to now paint as I think wood dominates. My hall is long and wide and uninspiring

Your house looks fab and the hallway seems to be spacious - you lucky thing!! I think dark blue could work well - my own hallway is white but with one wall painted dark blue - and I love it. However I’ve got serious house envy (and specifically hall envy) at the moment of a blogger who I also follow on instagram - your hallway made me think of hers because the height of your picture rail is similar to the height of some panelling that she’s added. Funnily enough, I was thinking the same thing as Sarah. Dark blue would be good, but something paler and different would be nice too. An earthy tone. Maybe Broccoli Brown (F&B)? And then a black table? Brass framed round mirror on a side wall?

The new Cox and Cox paints that she mentions in the blog were finally released last week - they’re gorgeous and would be a great choice for Ellie’s hallway. They’re made by Mylands, so really high quality too. Cox and Cox always have really good discounts too!

Beautiful hallway Ellie and it doesn’t need much faffing about with. Navy is lovely but I’m getting a bit bored with it, or is it just me? I love those taupe shades which can be highlighted with white and black, either with paint or furniture. Shades like Purbeck Stone, Elephants Breath and Skimming Stone with white above the picture rail. I can see from your lovely console table that those natural rustic tones appeal to you. Made a moodboard for you Ellie. Just because I like to do that kind of thing. This is how I see it :-)

Colour might be totally wrong in real life. And I'd paint the front door and windows black, I think.
