1950s original bathroom and kitchen

Hello, my mum has recently inherited a house that was built in 1958. The lady who lived there kept the house in an amazing condition and was really proud of the fact she’d kept the original bathroom and kitchen (and lots of other things). We’d love to give things like the tiles and bathroom/kitchen fittings to someone who loves the era and would love the original fixtures but we have no idea where to start.
Does anybody know of a forum or site where we could find a 1950s fan who would love these things as much as she did. We really don’t want to knock the house apart because she loved it so much but we don’t want to sell it to someone who wouldn’t appreciate these things either.
Any help or advice would be really appreciated!

An excellent year. There are lots of selling sites such as Gumtree, Preloved, eBay, Facebook Marketplace where you can sell items. You can also give away things for free on those sites. What sort of things do you mean? Bathroom fittings, fireplaces etc? i Assume if someone wants to buy an item then they would love it, but i don't think you can expect such an emotional tie to every item you wish to sell. There is a huge market for Victorian/Edwardian items but maybe not such a big market for 1950s items, but of course I may be wrong!

I would go with what the architect suggested. That was my immediate thought and also means that you will get light into your living area all day since the kitchen would be at the front and the living room at the back. It will be a nicer space to live in. If you really can't face bedrooms at the front though could you do something like this? It clearly isn't to scale!! You probably sacrifice a bit of space in that smallest bedroom but gain much more liveable floor space at the front of the house. It also gives your husband the open pan area he likes. It does sacrifice a separate entrance way though. I'd also shift the bathroom wall out and steal some space from the utility room so that you have a larger bathroom.

Kitchen cabinets will look fantastic painted. The thing to consider when thinking about worktops is the work black granite creates - they show every little watermark, so need a lot of polishing. I discovered this when doing lots of experiments on granite samples! Other thing to bear in mind is granite is porous, so you have to be careful about staining the lighter coloured worktops and granite requires resealing after a few years. Because I'm quite lazy and didn't want any maintenance, plus we are a messy family, I went with Compac Quartz in white mirror, it's practically bomb proof and I haven't managed to stain it yet (3 years on). Comes in tons of colours.

This might sound a bit like being on the fence given the advice you've had already... How about a mid to dark grey ( less contrast than black), RAL 7022 is a favourite of mine (warmer grey), or look at a green grey, as something that will have the colour of the olive, with a good amount of contrast against the white render, (you won't have the warm rich colours of the brickwork as in the photos above (which the olive looks good against)). If you are painting the timber windows you would do well to look at microporous opaque stains to reduce your on-going maintenance. A benefit of aluclad composite windows is colour outside can be factory supplied different to the interior finish. Hope this might help. Regards, Nick

Hi Sheona, No problem at all, I love doing them :) Glad you liked the previous plan, I know the feeling sometimes when you have been looking at something for so long it is impossible to make decisions :) I had a think last night about your other question about putting the utility near the kitchen. I can up with a few changes. I'm not sure if it is possible as I only had the plan to go on, but I thought I'd send it your way and it might help. My idea was to move the entrance to where the old utility room was, then put the new utility beside the kitchen in the old entrance way. I combined the old bathroom to make a bedroom, added a toilet and increased the side of the Den.
