Hi, I’d like a supersize island. We have the space for 3m x 1.5m (the room is 8x8m for kitchen, tv area & dining table).

I’m struggling to choose an island shape & design. The side overhangs/water fall looks nice (especially in marble effect worktop). I’d like some bar stools but not the full length as already other seating in the room.

But I’m concerned if the corners & edges will be too sharp with small children? I’m not keen on curved units.

What else is possible being able to retain the waterfalls but a bit softer than a big rectangle? Tia

I am sorry to say you don't have room. You are only giving yourself 36" in front of the ovens and only 31" for passage on the opposite side and 42" is not enough between the island and the sink. You might find a smaller 30" wide x 48" moveable stainless steel prep table and placed in the opposite direction, it might work for additional counter surface but not give you the seating you would like.

If you just want to perch there for a coffee then 200mm is better than nothing - it's a bit small an overhang to really get your knees under though ! 350mm is better ! If you post Your plan we might be able to see a way around it ?! Also your rough location (ie country ) as different guidelines Relate to different countries !

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. It’s great for catering for big events. However, I use the 4 ring induction hob on a daily basis. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your project, Claire

kitchen island, sink or not ?

I am planning on creating an island in my kitchen. Size will about 1200mm x 1200mm or 1200mm x 1oo0mm ( with a mini overhang). Ive been advised to put a mini spink in it but Im concerned it will be too small for a sink. Also main sink isn't too far away. I had been thinking about putting a drawer dishwasher on it too but is there any point if I don't put the mini sink in ?
