Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Gap at Fireplace Hearth?

I have a widening gap between my laminate and my Fireplace Hearth as the floor is not perfectly level. I was thinking of using some rope to hide this but would welcome any other suggestions.

Or run some mastic filler in the gap to fill it. Something in Antique White may blend in.

I'd definitely put some kind of stone on the walls, all the way to the ceiling. I think the gas fireplace that you have is really cute, but might look at a stone slab on the floor instead of the mat that is there now. I'd take stone inside of that alcove as well, whether matching or contrasting. You can still hang art above, on top of the stone. It would really make the room!

It should be possible. Most units allow an offset which would allow you to have the fireplace either left or right of the existing and still tie in to your existing flue pipe. One thing you will want to do is verify that the new unit you are buying is either compatible with the existing flue or will accept the same size pipe or smaller. This will allow you to hopefully reuse most of the existing chase and avoid getting into exterior framing, siding, and probably roofing work. There are many variables, hopefully this helps.

If you want the look of the fireplace you posted but are scared that the dark grey will flood your room, you could paint just the one panel/side wall with the grey, paint the fireplace frame white, and then paint the rest of the room a more light neutral colour. It will also create a more contemporary look and create more focus to your fireplace. Alternatively you may feel more safe to paint the fireplace frame a neutral colour to match the neutral walls. When you are ready to replace the fireplace, I would suggest a bio ethanol burner as a simple solution with minimal DIY work and an option of different styles. There are a thousand ways to use mirrors beautifully in a living room -- just not any old mirror in any old place, that I would agree with I think you should have art over the fireplace, and I see potential for using a scattering of small mirrors to bring light into the alcove and counterbalance the somewhat awkward angle of the TV. I'm assuming there's nowhere else to put the TV? I agree that the furniture in that corner is rather too flimsy to handle either the size of the TV or the bold black boxes of the fireplace and hearth. How about a striking floor vase?
