What should I paint this wall with

I had a wardrobe installed and the dodgy company said when it was finished that it didn't include the back of the wardrobe!! BUT I looked at the back and I love the wall... my house is 200 year old terrace. It's a bit powdery and as I will be putting close in there I was wondering what I should paint it with to keep the colour and the old wall look but stop the dust. Any suggestions. Would love some help. Regards

My Sharpes wardrobes didn’t include a back to them either, but we just painted the back and sides with white emulsion before fitting and it is fine, I’m not sure what that rust is but you could wash it all down with sugar soap and then emulsion the walls to tidy it up,

The wardrobe installer didn't tell me beforehand so now I have to fix it after installation. I want what is on the wall to stay there. I don't want to paint over it but want to make sure dust and dirt etc don't touch my clothes.

I personally like the kitchen, kind of a Scandinavian modern look. leave the skirts, doors and trims as is. Paint wise, I am going to invite you to a kitchen gallery that I think works well with the existing aesthetic you have now. I like the "Melrose Kitchen" in this instance, as an example of wall color. The trim is painted here, but leaving yours as is, I believe, would be fine! Happy Houzzing.

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. If you want to preserve that look you could varnish the wall.
I don’t think anyone else will see the charm you are seeing though - I think most peoples walls look like this when they strip wall paper and take down other fixtures such as shelves that leave drill holes. Anyone else would fill the holes and paint over it to give a flat and clean looking finish.

Thanks.... I rather like the colour and the history in some ways and as it's at the back of my wardrobe... only I and the moths will see it. :-)
