Porcelain paving??

Hi. I'm currently laying a porcelain patio using 600x600 tiles. The sub base is down and compressed ( type 1) I have started laying tiles using 6:1 sharp sand to cement and an sbr/water/cement mix as a slurry to go on the back of the tiles. I've noticed that some of the tiles sound hollow when I tap them even though I made best efforts to bed the tiles using full contact. My question is if a tile or 2 pops which I'm guessing will happen over time is there an adhesive I could use to bed it back down on the mortar base? Also, advice other advice would be appreciated.

    hi Graeme,

without knowing the exact spec.of tile it is difficult to comment. I think you probably should have laid a concrete base for the tiles and then bed them using a proprietary tile adhesive, which you could have laid one full bed.
there are trowels that have a depth guide allowing a full adhesive contact to the tile backing. what is the gap you are using between tiles? if you have a small space you are more likely to have issues with the tiles as they move than with a larger spacing to the tiles.

I'm not sure whether I have answered your question, but if I were laying the tiles i would certainly remove and relay the tiles now rather than wait and repair the if they become an issue . you may be able to remove enough of the cement used to relay them using a tile cement to get them level with the adjacent tiles.
