Kitchen cabinet paint

I have been around the internet and these forums looking for the most suitable paint to paint out kitchen cabinets. Lots of good but varying advice that makes deciding on one thing difficult.

They are an mdf vaneer and I have a Zimmer primer purchased and ready to go. I am now looking for the type of paint and have established it will likely be an oil based paint.

So my issue is there are so many names for various paints. Price points etc. I am not looking for a designer paint so very much want value. Prices below are first products I have come across and am considering - I am aware they are not all like for like. I'm looking to paint the lower cabinets a slate type grey and and the upper cabinets a lighter colour, probably an off white.

Good Home Durable - £16/L

Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood - £18/L

Johnstone's Cupboard Paint - £25/L

V33 Renovation - £18/L

If the F&B paints are that much better however and not relatively that much more expensive then I'd be open to them.

Any advice /experience using the above paint for this job (or indeed others) would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I am a bit late to this party! So, if you did not already have the primer, I would have said speak to me!

Paint has been really well developed so you do not need oil based anymore, you can get waterbased paint that is tried and tested for kitchen cabinets now.

I recently painted mine "cedar key" by BM in satin impervo, then glazed them using BM studio finishes alkyd glaze with a little SW urbane bronze mixed in. Then used wipe on polyurethane.

Hi, I'm looking for a recommended colour for my kitchen for a classy yet sophisticated look. It's also v important that it will be still quite bright (but not white) calming colour. My kitchen is South East facing and a lot of paints tend to look blue in it which is quite challenging. I was thinking of F&B Elephants Breath but I'm open to more suggestions. Thanks, Lital
