Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

kitchen colour - dark or ?

Can someone please help me weigh up the pros and cons of a near black/carbon coloured kitchen vs a milky coffee colour (sort of champagne/caramel/latte?)

With a white marble style quartz
Matt Slab door with a small handle

I love the look of the dark kitchens but worried about practicality? The room is large & has glass doors, but of course now is Summer & I can’t think how it will be in Winter

My sister has dark units, grey-blue to my eyes, dark wood effect floor and a whole wall of sliding doors and it never looks dark somehow. Here’s a couple of pics which are a bit rubbish, but you get the idea. I don’t know if I would personally have dark units but they do look amazing.

Also, are lighter wall units & darker islands a bit dated now?

Carbon cabinets under a pale countertop and every other unit white will look fab. Add pale oak floors (ceramic or wood or pvc). Why not?

Still curious to see your floorplan. :)

I think it can be stunning! I agree with cabinets to the ceiling except use cdrown molding for the English look you desire. By all means good lighting however to achieve the look do not use harsh lighting. Have dimmers and have a smallish lamp on one of your countertops for ambient lighting. I do suggest Carrera marble if you go grey or hammered stainless (to resemble pewter) if you go dark blue for your countertops and pl;ease consider hanging some antique mirror. I have a wonderful photo of a tiny deep blue kitchen and cannot seem to lay my hands on it. If I find it soon I will post it for you. I hope you will go for it and post photos! Hope this helps. :)

What I have always thought is, if you try to "match" an existing floor it looks like you tried and missed. When you go with something completely different, the result is yes, I wanted something different, and here it is. Especially if you lay it in a different direction. Does that make sense?

Brighten the dining with a chandelier over the table and a new rug in the right size. It should be 4' wider and longer than your table top to allow for chair scoot and sit space without the chairs falling off the rug. Change out your red for yellow to add a pop of brightness. Will the mirror above the piano fit on the wall left of it so the new chandelier can be doubled for more brightness?

My floor is dark wood (herringbone). Don’t have a floor plan yet need to draw up :)

A kitchen is a personal thing, be it you'd like it to be up to date or stylish, combinations of carbon/black and offwhite are timeless. It all depends on the overall look and feel, plus the style of the house and those who live in it.

Has your floor been laid throughout? No patchwork needed where the old kitchen is/was?

My floor is a much darker wood. I love that look but my house is probably too modern for shaker style, so I would need slab style

Will wait for photos and floorplan then ;)

With really dark floors I'd be carefull with dark units, but it all depends on the overall look, like I said before.

If you can show us how dark your floor is.

Dark carbon kitchen, white worktop can be lovely and classic. I don't think a really dark floor would go well though.

I wouldn't mix the unit colours though, think that could date a kitchen easily. Go all dark units.

I have carbon units, I'd day they're dark grey though, and when bright sun is on them they're mid grey.

Dark painted cabinetry is still very on trend and when combined with pale worktops and the smaller handles you propose, will be a very stylish combination. Deep blues and dark greys are of the moment and dark greens coming trhough as a 2021 trend. If you do not have lots of natural light you can always add more!
