I have a cupboard in my hallway that I would like to put all of my coats in but my neighbours downstairs smoke so you can smell it in the cupboard. Please can I get some advise on how to stop the smell from coming up into the cupboard, the floor has wooden floor boards. Thank you Michelle.
have you tried to take up the floor covering and sealing the floorboards ,remove the skirting and seal with a mastic, including filling gaps between the wall and floor. If this is done it should seal the smells from the flat below. after time the residual smell should dissipate and you should have a usable cupboard.
Smokers! We had the same problem which we could smell in our hall and landing. The neighbours had their computer set up below the stairs and it would drift up through the stairs. A brick wall and carpeting did not stop it coming through, I don’t have any remedies for you but one neighbour passed away and his wife gave up smoking soon after. I feel your pain, it’s horrible!
Hi Rowland thank you for that that sounds do able as it’s a rented property and can’t really do anything to drastic. When you say seal with a mastic can you recommend one or is this what it’s called. I also thinking to then cover the floor with underlay and carpet it’s not a big space. 😊
Sonia you are right in saying about the smell travelling as sometimes when I’ve been out for a long period of time it smells awful when I come home 🤦🏾♀️
