will eyelet curtains work?

We were hoping to have eyelet curtains throughout but this particular window seems problematic in that it is quite close to the ceiling. Would it look odd having eyelet curtains with the pole quite low down? Or should we consider a track system

Looks a small window, I'd put a Roman blind up.

If you use eyelets you'd probably see light through the holes as you don't have much height

Thanks Ellie. Would it look odd to have one window in the room with a Roman blind and the other window curtains? Or is it quite normal

Hello there... I hope I can be of some help as I have almost an identical sitting room - I will just share with you my sitting room this year!! All the walls started out in Dulux Timeless colour so I wanted to add an accent colour- like you, I have one end of the room that is patio doors. So the opposite wall to those, I chose as an accent wall - I know a lot of people suggest not having an accent wall but perhaps having horizontal painted stripes of colour etc... But as I was doing the painting, I knew I would have made a real hash of that!! So the third pic is my first attempt at an accent wall - The Greene Paint company - colour Bassalt. This was nice but I just got bored of it - it worked well against the richness of the wood floor etc and was very much a statement but in a few months I just couldn't settle with it. After several coats of white I have now settled on Farrow & Balls colour Lamp Room Grey. I know this seems all very neutral, but from the second photo you will see I have gone for cream curtains with neutral vertical pom-poms - but, by doing all this, I can now change the accent colour in this room at the drop of a hat and quite importantly - INEXPENSIVELY! For instance, if I wanted to, for Xmas, if I was going to spend a lot of time in that room, I could a. Go for red and cream cushions and create a Scandinavian look! Or b. Go for silver beaded cushions and silver candle jars and have a winter wonderland look! And equally in the summer, I could go for pastel pink floral cushions and a vase of delicate roses to bring the garden into the sitting room or just keep it neutral with ivory roses and a hint of lime green. So my advice would be to keep the expensive things neutral and then you can alter the in expensive things as you go along. I also think one expensive piece in any room is a good investment - be it a huge oversized pewter bowl or a something similar - that again is neutral in colour but is a statement piece. www.visioninteriors.ie Looking at your curtains and curtain pole, in my opinion it is the pole that initially needs to be corrected - it is a nice steel pole,however the importance of a pole being fitted correctly makes a huge difference to the hanging and look of the curtains. the brackets at each end of the pole should be at least 8"/20cm away from each sides of the window, this allows the curtains to frame the window nicely while letting in as much light as possible. The brackets should be 2"/5cm away from the finial ( ball end in this case) at each end of the pole. The space between the bracket and the finial (end of the pole) has one curtain ring only and the rest of the curtain rings/hooks are the window side of the brackets so that the curtains can hang straight. Whether you buy new curtains or hold onto your existing ones check out the fitting of the pole and remedy it - you will be amazed at the difference this can make.

I agree, blinds, they are large windows so that is a lot of material / expense if you go down the curtain route, plus curtains may block out light. We have sliding doors like yours and have chosen to keep them free of any covering, however we are not overlooked. You might also want to consider translucent / sheer roller blinds which offer moderate privacy yet still retain a degree of visibility. We have them on our front windows for privacy as we are in a single storey house / bungalow, people can't see in (during the day) but we can see out. We also have curtains with them in the sitting room as we wanted it to be more cosy / private at night. In the other rooms we have another blind that sits over the sheer blinds, but this wouldn't work for all windows.

This is the room, but we have other bedrooms with also odd shaped and located windows which is unfortunate as we do like curtains. I took photos of part of other bedrooms too. Thank you for helping

I have seen rooms where one window covering is a curtain and the other a roman blind, it doesn't look odd.

That does actually look good, with the same fabric. Would you put them inside the window recess our outside in my case? I am guessing outside

If you have space, put the blind outside the recess if it is in a bedroom. It will block the outside light much better.

Yes put it outside if you can, will definitely help with blocking out light & it’s a softer look especially if you’re more of a curtain person ... but mixing both can look great in a room, often better than all curtains

We have curtains at one window in our sitting room, and a Roman blind at the other. Matching fabric. Looks great.

I think with that window right by the wall, it would be difficult to have curtains anyway as there’s no room for a pole or track on the right- hand side of the window. For that one, a blind inside the recess might be necessary.

Yes tamp75 agreed. Wonder though if a Roman blind outside the recess would still work just about if fit right? Alternatively a tight fit internal blackout Roman blind may work

You could have an internal blackout roller blind & an external Roman blind. You wouldn’t see the roller blind behind the Roman one.
