Multi-outlet ceiling rose - how many lights for double height ceiling?

We have a double height cathedral ceiling part to our dining room with a curved 1st floor landing with balustrade looking over it. We are wanting to light up the bit above the dining room using these glass pendants https://www.nkuku.com/collections/pendant-lighting/products/otoro-glass-pendant-round-op15 and/or https://www.nkuku.com/collections/pendant-lighting/products/otoro-glass-pendant-oval-op14 . The area to be lit is 3.2m wide x 3.2m wide. We are wanting to hang them at highest 1.5m above height of balustrade and the lowest at same level of first floor landing. This gives a height range of 2 - 2.5m for the "cluster".

They will be hung from a multi point ceiling rose and hooked to various parts of the ceiling prior to dropping to the required length (our very experienced electrician is rewiring them with new flex and chain so we can have longer drops).

My questions are, how many (5 or 7), same shape or a mix of the two, same size or a mix of the two and how should they be hung with regards heights and widths between them? Basically wanting to achieve a lighting effect that looks good from below and from the first floor landing!!

Unfortunately the decorator's scaffold tower impacts these photos of the space! Looking forward to some ideas/advice ASAP as have to have all lights and flex on site by middle of next week!! Many thanks, Sarah

What's the size and shape of the dining table?

I also wonder if they'd be better hung separately rather than swagged, particularly as they're glass pendants?

I think I'd go for a mix but notice the small oval is out of stock for a while.

Thank you minnie101. Unfortunately the ceiling is clad in shiplap boards and we only have the one outlet which does mean we'll need to stick to the "swagging" method.

The dining table is rectangular and when fully extended goes way beyond the double height area so only part of it will get the benefit of whatever we hang there. I do like the look achieved in your first photo and agree a mix would be good - yes, will have to wait for the smaller ones!

I'm not so keen on having to swag but we won't extend them to far from the rose and I have chosen a flex that is the same colour as the ceiling so they'll hopefully "disappear" a bit.

Hello the days are brightening up by now and I'm sure the room is looking less drab for it. However I think furniture rearranging will work wonders. You seem to have nice low window sills: show them off. If the sofa goes to the left between window and built-in unit you'll have a view out to the garden and more light in the room. Equally: can you fit the piano between the radiator and the double doors? Again: more light through the window. Low sills are a god-send, and so many of us are stuck with high ones. The room will feel more spacious with a good view to outdoors. The armchairs then: one to the left of the fireplace and one between the other window and piano. TV then between the two windows. (No shine on the screen) Does that fit maybe? Or do you need all five seats facing the TV? I rather like those stripy cushions. Can you find a striped wallpaper in matching colors and with an irregular pattern repeat for your accent wall? if going with wood floors how about a sheepskin rug for each of your doggies? Black or white. One last detail. A lower table for your side lamps would be good: At sofa arm or seat height. Coffee table could work in corner between window and new sofa position. Btw: I liked the suggestion to replace the cupboard doors above the fish tank with full-height ones. In some kitchen shops you can find ready-painted, wooden, panel doors that might fit. It's a long shot but you could be lucky. It would brighten up the corner if you got a light colour.

With a sliding door, you can have each side different to match the style of the room it faces. Here are some ideas that, believe it or not, are done with sharpies on flat surfaces. I can envision a "fireplace" on the lounge side. On the dining room side, you could do the "double door" look, by putting half on the door, and half on the wall next to the door. So when the door is closed, it looks like a pair of doors, but when the door is slid open it looks like only one door (but it's the wall!) I added the 3rd picture just because I think it's so cool. I believe the only "real" thing in the room is the glass table/desk, and the filing cabinet.

Hello nicnoll, Another idea could be to have a wall light that is all about the bulb! A few links to both ideas.... Copper is good too... One other idea... have a rose with multi flex wires... centralised where the current one is.. Then choosing cable/flex and lengths.. run them along to where you want.. either along ceiling.. in loops with hooks to loop round and fix position, so then excess becomes a drop pendant to add something lovely.... Or you run them in loops across the ceiling to the opposite wall and have a wall light fitting but the electric cable comes from the one ceiling point. So less to do wiring wise.. Lovely, much better than the 3D plan. V glad you kept your patterned floor tiles, I really like them. It's all come together very attractively. The only thing I'd change and this is just because I'm a colour freak is the pendants - I'd probably have made those red and orange or something. But congrats really, it looks great.

It may be worth speaking to the electrician if you're not as keen on swagging. I know they can run a "pipe" through the ceiling void with the cabling in to put extra outlets and then just drill a hole from underneath the ceiling for the light but that is dependant on the joist direction etc though. That may not be feasible for what you want to do but may be worth asking the question anyway!

If not, choose hooks that blend in with the ceiling? It will be easier to assess position this way too as you can just get the electrician to hold each one up for assessment before fixing! A general rule is that lights should be 1/2 - 2/3 of the tables width and normally hung 30-36 inches above the table. Given the double height I'd probably just start the lowest pendant c40-46 inches but I'm not sure on your total ceiling height and even though it's a feature you want to make sure the table is sufficiently lit! It's probably worth drawing it out on paper

I trust you managed to find what you wanted on this, what a shame we were too late to the party! One of our mutli outlet roses would have enabled you to do this easily. The one pictured here is 400mm diameter, but we go up to 600mm.
