Damp around double glazed door - advice wanted

Hello,

This new double-glazed front door was installed about 3 years ago. About 6 months ago I noticed these damp patches around each of the bottom corners.
At the time the guttering above was blocked and water was splashing down. I assumed this was the problem so I fixed the gutters.
It's been several dry months since I fixed the gutters and the damp patches haven't gone away, if anything they've gotten a little bit worse.
Do you think there could be some other underlying problem?
Could it be a problem with the door that has only just surfaced?
Does it look like rising or penetrating damp?
I can't think of what else I can do to diagnose or solve the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take more photos of the area around the door at more of a distance. You have a plastic pipe under a cement line to the left of the door and a wire entering a hole in the last hand side wall. What are these things for? Have your paving stones around the doorstep been installed above the height of your damp course? are there any signs of air bricks? Pour a jug of water on the patio stones outside your door, which direction does the water run? Is it running towards the house? This looks like dampness in the walls but could have been there previous to your door change, but the door is better fitting and the wall is not drying as quick. This needs further investigation and a remedy discovered before further damage is done.

I wonder how long you have had the planter situated on the left side of the entrance. this may be a source of the problem. if water is being directed over the damp course on the wall.

the rendered finish to the house does not show any indication of a dpc, so this could have been bridged by works in the past.

the pavement level is high on the house looking at the step into the house. it should be 150mm or three brick courses. yours seems to be only 50 mm at the entrance.

the door is fitted virtually flush in the opening and there is an absence of a threshold cill at the entrance. any water hitting the door will run down and be discharged through sweep holes on the profile onto the small margin at the front. this may be running along and entering around the door.

in terms of solutions.

check mastic seals at the door to try to renew.

add a threshold strip to the door to throw water out off the door.

check on some of the other possibilities.

rising damp will contain ground salts, this can be tested on the internal wall with a salts meter, a surveyor can do this for you.

sorry without more investigation the possibilities and solutions are wide open from your initial information.

I think it might work better to have blinds on the wall with the smaller windows (perhaps in a plain colour) and have curtains on the main stretch of windows, using the existing curtains to replace the small roman blinds. This would allow the fantastic view to be the main focus. I do think plain curtains would work well here but you perhaps aren't keen to change them as they are new? Could they be used elsewhere? I also agree re moving the sofas so they aren't at angles, it looks a bit strange. Maybe try them in a u shape around the fire. And perhaps painting the door frame white might make the room feel calmer. Where did you find your lovely footstool btw?

Gosh, I've returned after a week travelling for work to loads more suggestions - thanks all! To respond specifically: - the house faces south so gets the lovely morning (and in the uk, sometimes the only) sun. - the husband has avoided putting plants in the planters due to maintenance and they're generally twee so comments here have confirmed to me that they will be coming out - love the idea of wooden boxes with the spiky plants and grasses - also like the concept of taking out the grass/bed/tree in front completely out and replacing with slabs - yes to lightening the windows - to the Barn company, I honestly don't mind the advice and I'd never seen sloping garage roofs. - nicking ideas from landscaping of new builds....great idea! - finally, Helen Scholes, I'm embarrassed about the spelling of kerb. Had no idea! Thanks again all.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

can that wall be remover between kitchen and table? if so could you put a narrow island in kitchen with a table/counter running off of it into current dining area. this would be alot narrower and allow for more storage unser the window plus open up ypur living space more. also furniture is very dark for a small space and table and chairs seem very big. could you paint ceiling white and light fixture a brighter colour.. all these things should make it seem bigger. the picture i have attached would be quitw narrow and just an idea i saw on houzz.
