Go wild! I've no clue... (Dining room)

Hi all

Please could someone kindly help with some advice for changing my dining room.

Happy to replace all furniture apart from maybe the table.

I'm going to replace the carpet with wooden floor so welcome any styles or colour choices.

The room is open but quite dark as the only natural light is from the extension and the back door panes (frosted glass).

Any ideas of paint colour or any ways to fill the large walls would be much appreciated!

A floor plan with some dimensions would probably help people here to help you.

Can I ask you why the table is pushed against the wall (and blocking a door) when it looks like like you have space enough for it elsewhere?

Lastly 🙂, what do the doors lead to/from?

I agree it would! I just googled this and created this very simple one to show where everything is at the mo.

The table used to be in the centre with all six chairs around it but we moved it after holding a get together a few months ago and haven't moved it back - I've been working from home there and the dog has more room to play for now! But it isn't normally there and definitely wouldn't be there once I start decorating etc.

The archway leads to the kitchen extension.

The door blocked by the chair is the under the stairs storage.

The back door has the glass panes and the other door leads into the living room (past the stairs)

Thanks guys, in my own head I was thinking mismatched chairs, maybe painted in a neutral shabby chic kind of way, but I'm really impressed with both the ghost chair and the tobias as it makes it all about the table but definitely puts a modern twist on it. Any other photos out there of the ghost or tobias in situ?

I would definitely go for a larger kitchen therefore a swap. Also if structure allows to remove this little bit of unnecessary wall by current kitchen entrance would make the space more open.( I think in the other plan I see it is happening?) the outside door swap for a window is a very good idea in my mind.

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

Take out sofa, use beanbags and those blow up seats for their friends. Coloured rugs for tumbling and crawling on. Supersoft teddy bear blankets so they can curl up. Add in one of those soft blanket boxes for toy storage and so you have somewhere soft to perch when you are with them. Paper half way up the wall in the wall paper that kids can draw on, so they can decorate in whatever colour they like and you won't mind. A childs lift up desk, bookcase and some crazy lamps in weird colours. Then close the door, collapse on the sofa that you have moved, breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky stars that you have another room for the kids to go to. (Grab wine and pretend they aren't yours for half an hour! ;-) )

Hi. What styles and colours do you like? Is the frosted glass to block off the view of the extension?

No they were in when we bought the house. I was thinking oak floors and then something modern that would suit the room probably either pastel colours or the opposite and go for something dark. I was thinking of wallpapering the wall with the table against it
