What to do with a sloping slabbed back garden?
We've lived in this house for a few years now. not done anything to the back garden, mainly because we have no idea what to do with it. 😂
I hate all the steps up and down. all the different types of slabs, decking and monoblock.
A new fence has been put in at the back and it's just fake grass on top of slabs. We got that just for a bit of colour. until we decide on a plan.
the trampoline is usually where the grass is, as its the only flat part of the garden.
any ideas at all, would be appreciated.

3 years agoI’d be inclined to pull it all up and start again, too much going on, too many different materials, do you need that brick fence. Some of the material may be used again, but just stick to the one kind. The area would be lovely with some greenery and furniture.

Paint wise, I am going to invite you to a kitchen gallery that I think works well with the existing aesthetic you have now. I like the "Melrose Kitchen" in this instance, as an example of wall color. Comments (3)HI -- That is a big yard . Section off for your needs . Plan a patio and entertainment area close to the house . Then an area for the kids and then an area for a garden if needed and so on . Maybe build a little garden /summer house that has a fireplace or is screened in . Then the left over area you could just have it as a natural meadow with lots of trees where you don't need to mow grass -- the dog would love that . Add lighting too. Use some Eco grass ( no mow ) and lots of perennials and trees . Make a grove of trees like aspens or birches . To respond specifically: - the house faces south so gets the lovely morning (and in the uk, sometimes the only) sun. - the husband has avoided putting plants in the planters due to maintenance and they're generally twee so comments here have confirmed to me that they will be coming out - love the idea of wooden boxes with the spiky plants and grasses - also like the concept of taking out the grass/bed/tree in front completely out and replacing with slabs - yes to lightening the windows - to the Barn company, I honestly don't mind the advice and I'd never seen sloping garage roofs. - nicking ideas from landscaping of new builds....great idea! - finally, Helen Scholes, I'm embarrassed about the spelling of kerb. 3 years agoI think it will be hard for you to make a decision until you have uplifted all the bricks etc and then you will have a blank canvas, it could look awesome. Use your red brick as decking and do it in two levels, first level brick, next just grass perhaps. Put a big mirror on that back fence add lots of greenery, decide before you lay any bricks where you might want to add the greenery. I would be inclined to plant some sort of hedge, like a camellia hedge in front of the iron fence for privacy and a nicer view. Otherwise take your pics to a garden centre and see what they suggest. Good luck, I’m sure it will be lovely, just get it to a blank canvas first

3 years agoSo many levels, so many trip hazards! Our garden originally had several levels, the worst was a small concrete patio which went down, then up a step, then down, then up to the main part - a design disaster! We slowly improved it with a one level deck (which now needs replacing) then a retaining wall with two steps up to the main garden.
If budget allows demolish the wall, remove all various paving, keeping the paving you like for reuse. I would then get a Garden Designer to draw up a plan with a planting plan. This would cost a few hundred pounds but I think it will be well worth it. You can then either do the work yourself or get a landscaper in. I’m loving the pictures shared above, great inspiration. Below is my two level garden as it was a couple of weeks ago.

We did a lot of the work ouselves with the help of a digger. And my nephew laid the slabs, which we reused from the sloped part of the garden.dynamo91
