Lighting an open plan living, dinning and kitchen area

Hi, I have am open plan arrangement for my living, dining and kitchen whose lighting an trying to place without making the space feel cluttered. The kitchen will have black cabinets and a white counter top and back splash. The living room and dining room will have white walls. What's would be the best lighting fixtures to have? Also would a feature wall work here considering the size of the room? What would be the best colour for the blinds considering that the seats will have grey fabric and the tile is grey.
Below is the floor plan. The dimensions are in millimetres.

Hi Carol,

You questions are a bit vague. I think you would get a better response if you gave more details and pictures.

Also, just out of curiosity, what is a "kitchen yard"?

Hi. Thanks. The house is currently under construction with only the foundations completed so far.
The kitchen yard will have a cage to house the gas cylinder and an outdoor sink. It's like an open utility area

Hi I notice your blind and lamp are Laura Ashley Pelham. Laura Ashley does a duck egg white, pale duck egg and duck egg paint colours. Maybe you could have the duck egg white as the predominant colour and use in both rooms but also use the pale duck egg or duck egg in the lounge, or add some wallpaper. Not sure grey walls would work with the kitchen units. Perhaps more of a taupe/warm grey would work in both spaces though.

We have just bought a house and the renovation plans are coming together nicely, but the kitchen and sitting room area have me stumped! I love modern, open plan design, so I want to join the both areas to create a big family friendly space. The balcony is a fantastic feature of the house, so I'm thinking bifold doors the length of the kitchen to let in light and join the indoor & outdoor space. But that leaves very little options as far as I can see for placement of the kitchen cabinets. I have attached the floor plan of the relevant level of the house. Can anyone give me some brilliant ideas?

Hi Gilluan I think either could work but it depends on the layout of your new room. if there is a distinct divide between the two spaces then you can separate the floor coverings. It certainly makes the living area feel warmer and more cosy if you have wooden flooring in that space. Equally a tiled floor is far more practical in a kitchen. Loads of options as you basically have a black canvas. I love a rich teal, or dark turquoise. You could also consider wine or pink, or indeed red, but careful of tones

Given that you lose so much space in the kitchen for the pantry door why bother?
Why not have a run of tall units on the fridge wall and then either get rid of the pantry or put in a door from the other side and use it as an outside store.

Ah okay that makes more sense. We don't have many open porches and open utility areas here in the uk. It's too cold here!

With regards to lighting, in the kitchen consider adding under cabinet lighting. It's hidden so won't feel cluttered. In the dining room a pendant over the table. And the living room a pendant and some table lamps.
