Help! Small/oddly shaped master bedroom.

Hi,

We're looking to do the master bedroom out soon but we are struggling with the odd shape of the room. We would really like fitted wardrobes but are unsure where to put them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My wife really likes shaker style wardrobes and possibly the idea of the ensuite doorway being concealed by the centre wardrobe (in the example picture, this would be the centre wardrobe I suppose). Any thoughts?

Would it be possible to move the ensuite wall to make the room squarer? I realise that would be an upheaval unless you're planing to redo the ensuite too, but might make furniture placement easier.

Yes, possibly. Someone also suggested straightening up the wall by building wardrobes either side of the door (one being double stacked). Not sure how I feel about the middle door concealing the ensuite... don't know if I should be worried about damp/steam and the clothes...

Given the wooden window frames, consider roman shades or woven wood roll up shades. I would not add too much white since three of your walls, your baseboard and your crowne molding are already white, not to mention your bedframe (great bed by the way). Having said that, white night stands would be good, but suggest something other than white lamps, although white lamp shades would work. You mentioned Ikea. They have some great fabrics, bedcovers and lamps/lampshades. Ikea also has various window treatments, including roman type shades. They also sell a sliding panel system that is awesome if you see a color that works. It comes in various colors and would really add some life to the room. The panels slide on a rail system, allowing you to close and open them as desired. Agree it would be nice to pull the colors together with fabric that has both the green and the blue, either with the bedcover, pillows or window coverings. Also like the suggestion to try several small items over the bed (doesn't have to be pictures). The example picture shows three pictures of the same size. Two smaller items with one large in the middle also works well and might be a better fit with your square shaped bedframe. FYI, the lamps in the photo with the three pictures over the bed are really a bit small for that room. Notice in the picture of your bed, the lamps are much taller. Either tall lamps or lamps with a fairly large scale would be a good match to your bedframe. I would hold off on the ceiling light fixture until you have the bed in the room and have chosen your lamps, window treatments and other furniture. With all of these elements in the room, you will have an easier time chosing a ceiling fixture that matches the scale of the room and matches the style of your other furnishings. Dear Éilíse Sullivan, the mahogany wardrobe looks like a great project! The image is too small for me to see the details of it; it looks like has glass/metal door at the top part and design details on the draws. If you send me a better quality image and with the door closed I can visualised it for you in any other colour you like if it helps. Replacing part of the furniture (glass) with solid panels covered in wall paper or fabric, using decoupage for the inside of the drawers or muted colours on the outside and brights on the inside ... are all possibility depending in which room you want to place it and what you are going to use it for. Are you going to do it for yourself, just for fun or to sell/present? I would paint the back panel in a darker colour, also the inside of the wardrobe part and all the horizontal and vertical straight lines to frame the different units: draws, 'open shelf' cabinet at the top and door. I would go for wall paper on the inside of the draws, something sympathetic with the darker tone on the back panel ... the handle can stay or be replaced (I need a closer look); they can really give a wist to the furniture if changed. For the choice of colours ... it really depend on where it goes and what you want to do with it. The room's images you posted are quite different in style. You could try to 'blend' the piece in to the room's design scheme by choosing complementary colours or go the opposite and bring in a bold statement. I like bold statements! I would love for help deciding how to creat additional wardrobe space in this master bedroom. There is a small walk in wardrobe but I have an idea to introduce a full wall of wardrobes and make one of the wardrobes a hidden door to the en-suite / walk-in wardrobe. Is that a terrible idea? Any suggestions welcome! Need lots of storage

If you get the ventilation right in the en-suite no moisture should get into the clothes

Thanks Wilson! If I were to remove that doorway (squiggled out in black), would you build the units/walls, as shown by the red lines, as a stud wall or to you think a water resistant MDF would suffice (So more of a wardrobe than a wall)?

Needless to say... I'm a novice!

I would tend to use stud work walling with plywood faces as these would be strong enough to take the hanging fittings and you could then ceramic tile finish in the corridor. Seal in the cupboards where walls meet. Avoid plastering (as a novice) . Its down to getting the sealing and detail right, Ask a tiler to help with this part of the works so you can be sure of keeping the moisture out. Make sure you have the right fan and control it on a humidity sensor plus manual switching for boost etc.
