Kitchen/dining/living room flow
Comments (1)Thank you for commenting. I was hoping to place double doors /pocket doors between the kitchen and living room that I could open or close off particularly in the depths of winter. I like my heat. Doing that leaves me with less wall space for kitchen units particularly the American style fridge freezer but something has to give. The back wall of the house opens/or rather doesn't open to the garden at the moment but I would like it to do so. So nothing unusual here, I just want a kitchen /diner / utility that opens onto the garden for outside entertainment, but I think my main struggle is with the length and narrowness of the room. I'm finging it really hard to visualise a functional working space....See MoreTwo living areas side by side?!
Comments (1)Sounds like you have the opportunity to have a "formal" living room and a family room! Do you have children? If so, a "formal" living room allows you create a space purely for grown-ups. I keep putting formal in quotes because the space can be as formal or relaxed as you want it to be. You can add built-ins to create a library/office feel, or make it a movie screening lounge. If you entertain a lot, a beautiful bar or bar cart is a great vintage throwback for spaces like yours. Into music? This space would be awesome for setting up a record player and displaying albums. The possibilities are endless! Do you mind sharing pictures of the space in question? And maybe sharing a little more about how you/ your family like to spend your free time? Would love to give you some more specific suggestions if you'd like!...See MoreNeed help with my living room please.
Comments (25)Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it....See MorePaint colour advice for semi open plan kitchen/living area
Comments (4)Hi I notice your blind and lamp are Laura Ashley Pelham. Laura Ashley does a duck egg white, pale duck egg and duck egg paint colours. Maybe you could have the duck egg white as the predominant colour and use in both rooms but also use the pale duck egg or duck egg in the lounge, or add some wallpaper. Not sure grey walls would work with the kitchen units. Perhaps more of a taupe/warm grey would work in both spaces though....See MoreChloe Bloomfield
