We just bought a house and I am unsure if I'll be able to keep the original fireplace as I just can't picture it in the finished room. I am planning to convert back to an open fire. Does anyone have any pictures ofthese types of fireplaces finished sitting rooms?
We had such fireplaces in the bedrooms of our 1934 house. Sorry but we removed them as we found them quite ugly! Some people love them but i just couldn’t see the beauty in them.
This will divide people as they tend to be a love/hate thing. I don't think being original is enough of a reason to keep something, you need to like it. Will look for pictures.
I know I love the shapes - the colours I'm not sure about. I won't paint because I just don't think it would turn out well enough Id rather replace it then. I haven't found any results on my Google searches to see something similar in a finished room.
Agree that these fireplaces can be a bit of a marmite thing. Personally I quite like it, it’s a little more unusual than others of the period. Was playing around with a new app this morning and put together a collage of ideas I think could work. If you decide to keep it I think the key is to keep things fairly light and simple, and not go too overboard with the Art Deco style. However some fabulous lighting or a statement chair would work a treat😊.
