Size of Kitchen Island

I wanted to put in the title - "Does Size Matter?" because that is what my design dilemma is all about :-).

So I have learned that my kitchen design in the new build of my townhome has resulted in my kitchen island having a seam in the countertop, which I am not a fan of, and wanted to get your thoughts. I am told by the kitchen company that if I do not wish to have a seam, I would need to shorten the island to around 118” in length, which means I would lose around 20” of countertop (10” on either side) and one full cabinet.

Seam or shorter island? Thoughts?

Hi would be good to see the whole floor plan to judge properly. But first impressions would be that it looks like you want a modern handleless design and therefore the J shape kitchen is too complicated for the design concept and the U shape with the island I would say the island is too small. A more simple L shape and larger island I think would work better. CK

Hi What do you guys think of having a range in the kitchen island? The thing is I want an integrated griddle too and its only available (or I can only afford) on a range. Theres no hob that Im aware of that has an integrated griddle other than the wolf and miele which are very expensive but there are a few affordable range with griddle. Is it bad or unsafe to have a range on a kitchen island? What colour to paint island if kitchen cabinets,are elephants breath?

The colour would depend on lots of variants. Such as what’s on the floor? how much light is there? Do you have a splash back what’s the counter top? That said would you consider painting the island a feature colour? Such as ink blue or emerald green? It would make your island a feature. Good luck

Hi all. We are converting our garage and putting on a rear extension. The extension is not in the attached plan. We need need ideas for kitchen layout. I'd love an island but not sure if it would fit. The garage measures 15ft8" by 8ft3" without insulation. We also have a large American fridge freezer (27.5in deep, 33in wide) to accommodate and I want a good sized larder press. Had been looking at a corner one by the window at the front but would this leave the window too small?
